North Korea supports Russia. 10,000 soldiers on their way to the front

The Pentagon announced that about 10,000 North Korean soldiers have already been sent to Russia. According to American sources, they may be involved in operations on the front line with Ukraine.

This move, commented on by both the Pentagon and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, indicates Russia’s gradual dependence on foreign support in the conflict.

New forces on the Russian front

Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh confirmed that North Korean soldiers are currently undergoing training in Russia with the intention of joining the fighting in Ukraine in the coming weeks. “We are concerned about plans to use these soldiers in direct combat operations,” Singh emphasized during the press conference, pointing out that Pyongyang is becoming more and more involved in Moscow’s military support.

Support from Pyongyang – what does it mean for Ukraine?

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized in one of his recent speeches that his government has evidence of training 10,000 North Korean soldiers to support Russia. These troops are to be equipped with equipment and ammunition provided by Russia, which, according to Zelensky, is a “serious signal of escalation of the conflict” and proves further international isolation of Russia, which is forced to seek military support in countries such as North Korea.

According to Yonhap news agency, about 4,000 North Korean workers were also sent to Russia to support the local economy and infrastructure related to the front. Details of their exact responsibilities are unclear, but the figure suggests that Pyongyang supports Moscow not only militarily but also economically.

NATO and the Pentagon respond

The presence of North Korean soldiers on the Russian front triggered an immediate reaction from NATO. Secretary-General Mark Rutte, commenting on the latest reports, said that Kim Jong Un’s involvement in the conflict is evidence of the difficulties Russia faces in continuing its war against Ukraine.

“This shows how much pressure sanctions and international actions put on Russia,” Rutte said, emphasizing that North Korea’s support could prompt NATO and its allies to continue supporting Ukraine to “balance” additional enemy forces.

Strategic partnership or desperate move?

Military experts and analysts have different opinions about the Kremlin’s decision to cooperate with North Korea. Some of them believe that the presence of North Korean soldiers may not only not improve Russia’s military situation, but may even have the opposite effect, leading to increased Western involvement in the conflict and providing Ukraine with modern weapons.

Other analysts suggest, however, that North Korean soldiers, despite their limited experience, can provide significant support to Russian troops, especially when conducting operations in areas with difficult access or requiring large human forces.

New technologies for North Korea

Cooperation between North Korea and Russia is not limited to military support alone. Pyongyang recently announced that it is ready to launch another military satellite, which would be carried out with technological support from Russia. It’s a move that the Pentagon says poses a “serious threat” to regional stability.

Analysts fear that the development and implementation of modern technologies by Koreans may soon gain wider application, both in East Asia and Eastern Europe. “The joint military and technological activities of Pyongyang and Moscow indicate long-term plans that may impact NATO’s long-term defense strategy,” summarizes one of the analyzes published by Military.com.

International reactions

Despite North Korea’s involvement, the Pentagon announced that the United States would not change its position on military support for Ukraine, even if North Korean troops were engaged directly at the front. “If Kim’s soldiers penetrate Ukraine, they will be treated as a party to the conflict, with all the consequences of this status,” emphasized Sabrina Singh from the US Department of Defense. The United States’ decision is intended to prevent an uncontrolled escalation of the conflict.
