Nobry material awarded in the heart of Samsung TVs is a billion reasons to look longer
When in 2023 the Nobel Committee awarded the Nobel Prize in the field of chemistry for the discovery and synthesis of quantum dots, their impact on many areas was emphasized: from medicine, through quantum communication, to the display industry. Today, these groundbreaking materials are in the heart of the most advanced Samsung Qled and Neo Qled and OLED and The Frame TVs, confirming that scientific innovations really change the quality of everyday visual experiences and improve the quality of entertainment.
Quantum dots: precise light like never before
Quantum dots are semiconductors whose size – smaller than the length of the wave of light – determines the color they emit. Thanks to the phenomenon of the so -called Quantum Confinement, smaller particles emit light with a short wave (blue), larger – longer (red). Samsung used this principle to achieve unprecedented precision of color reproduction. Each molecule is responsible for a specific shade in the RGB palette, creating an image with exceptional purity and realism.
– We used quantum dots on TVs, because they have extremely narrow peaks of the emission spectrum and strong fluorescence – explains Dr. Sanghyun Sohn, head of the advanced visual laboratory at Samsung Electronics. – Thanks to this, they perfectly reproduce pure red, green and blue colors, providing the viewer with unprecedented depth of the image.
Limiting the spectrum eliminates the blur of colors and allows you to display the image with great precision. In practice, this means the colors we see in reality – intense, consistent, natural.
Engineering at Nano level: Film production with quantum dots
The heart of QLED technology is a special foil with quantum dots. Samsung has developed a proprietary method of creating it, which consists in even dispersion of dots in the polymer base, and then hardening the material. This is an extremely precise process.
– It’s like mixing cinnamon with thick honey – you need to keep homogeneous without creating lumps – compares Dr. Sohn. – Our experience has allowed to create foils that maintain optimal quality for years.
Samsung films are distinguished by high transparency, moisture resistance and UV radiation, the ability to achieve brightness of up to 2,000 rivets.
Quantum dots without cadmium – with health and planet in mind
Samsung was one of the pioneers in the development of quantum dots without cadmium – a toxic element limiting industrial applications. Already in 2015, the company introduced SUHD TV – the first TV in the world with quantum dots without cadmium, and then continued the development of this technology in the QLED line. Today, materials based on indu phosphorus (INP) are used, which retain optical properties, eliminating harmful substances.
– Samsung QLED contains over 3000 ppm quantum dots, and 100% of red and green colors are made thanks to them – says Sohn.
Experts, however, emphasize: not every quantum dot is the same, and not every TV with “Quantum” in the name guarantees a real visual advantage.
Sample models of Samsung TVs with quantum dots:
-
Samsung AI TV QN92F Mini LED (Neo QLED 4K) – TV with Quantum Mini LED technology and Real Quantum Dot Display. It offers extremely high brightness and contrast, ideal for HDR movies and games.
-
Samsung AI TV QN85F Mini LED (Neo QLED 4K) – 4K display with anti -reflective coating, Dolby Atmos technology and Real Quantum Dot Display certificate.
-
Samsung AI tv QN990F Mini LED (Neo QLED 8K) – flagship model 8K. It uses the full capacity of Quantum Dot, achieving impressive detail and depth of colors, supported by artificial intelligence.
Samsung QLED TVs are not only the result of advanced engineering – this is the result of research decades, cooperation of scientists awarded Nobel and engineers with passion. This is proof that material the size of a billion part of the subway can change how we see the world. Literally.
