Nobody expected this. Nine new routes from Modlin airport
Nine previously canceled routes from Modlin appeared in the Ryanair booking system. Will the popular carrier give the airport a second chance?
Has the conflict between Ryanair and Modlin been resolved? Although there was no indication, the carrier’s reservation system suddenly added more routes from the Masovian airport. As Fly4free.pl writes, there are as many as nine connections that were originally supposed to be irreversibly removed as part of regular cuts. It seems that Poles will have the opportunity to travel from the port in Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki to, among others, Burgas, Thessaloniki, Edinburgh, Catania or Rhodes.
Ryanair surprised tourists
Although in the case of Ryanair and the Modlin airport, there was talk of cuts and a slow phasing out of operations, the Irish low-cost airline once again surprised its customers this year by changing its strategy regarding the smaller Warsaw airport. As many as nine new routes will appear in the carrier’s system next spring, which until recently were considered completed. Poles will be able to fly from Modlin to many hot destinations. The list included places such as Burgas, Catania. Paphos, Rhodes, Thessaloniki, Zadar and Palma. There were also Edinburgh and Copenhagen. “Additionally, the Irish carrier increased the number of flights on the routes from Modlin to Budapest from 3 to 5 per week and to Alicante (from 5 to 7 flights per week),” we read in Fly4free.pl.
Further route cutting is inevitable
In the past, the CEO of Ryanair, Michael O’Leary, repeatedly presented the authorities of the Masovian airport in a bad light. “Modlin is the only airport in Poland that will see a decline in traffic this year. All because of poor management, which unfortunately continues for now. Others will develop, this airport will be left behind,” he said at an airline conference earlier this year.
Ryanair confirms that despite the restoration of some connections, its policy towards the Modlin airport will not change. Travelers can therefore expect further changes to the schedule.
“Ryanair will make further capacity reductions at Warsaw Modlin Airport next summer, resulting in the loss of over 1 million seats, 11 direct connections and reduced frequencies on a further 28 routes. This huge loss of traffic and connectivity is entirely due to the prolonged inaction of the Modlin Management Board, which inexplicably rejected the possibility of doubling passenger traffic at the airport. This development of Ryanair would be groundbreaking both for the Modlin Airport and the entire Mazovia region. Instead, next year Ryanair will carry less than half the number of passengers to Modlin than in 2024 – the least in over a decade,” the carrier’s press office reported.
