No more discomfort for tourists. Airport opening hours have been extended here

Tourists flying to the Canary Islands will notice the difference. One of the local problems is expected to disappear after it was decided to extend airport operating hours. What is this all about? We are cheating.

The popular airports in Fuerteventura and La Palma were not always a convenient place to land. It happened that tourists who were supposed to get there ended up on other islands. All because the ports mentioned were already closed. Such incidents mainly occurred when planes were delayed, which occurs due to many unexpected situations. Things are going to get better now.

Canary Islands airports with changes

At the beginning of November, the mentioned ports in the Canary Islands operate longer. All this to better respond to the needs of airlines and increase the flexibility of connection planning. The changes are intended primarily to help manage delayed commercial flights, which sometimes take place outside standard opening hours, e.g. when there are disruptions to air traffic or in unfavorable weather.

Fuerteventura has extended its opening hours from November 1, 2025. Theoretically, it is open as before, i.e. from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., but it is possible to extend the opening hours by an hour, until midnight, at the request of the air carrier.

It’s similar in La Palma – the port is open now from 7 – 23which means it opens an hour earlier and closes an hour and a half later than before.

Tourists will appreciate the changes

The changes introduced will certainly make tourists happy, especially those who have already had the opportunity to experience for themselves the threat of closing the airport where they wanted to land with a delay. Even Poles experienced such situations. For example, this year a group of tourists who flew from Poznań to Fuerteventura set off only five hours late. As the port on Fuerteventura was already closed, they reached another island – Gran Canaria. This generated many additional problems, including: having to look for accommodation or transport to the destination.

This includes: This situation forced the authorities of the Canary Islands to react quickly. It has been noticed that the problem with flexible landings at airports in La Palma and Fuerteventura is so common that changes need to be introduced. Before they were approved, a comprehensive study was carried out to ensure the plan was practical and cost-effective. Entrepreneurs who manage flights between the islands were also consulted. Ultimately, the plan worked.
