Nikola Grbic made a difficult decision. The Polish coach had to do it!
We met the fourteen volleyball players who will represent Poland during the European Championship 2026. Nikola Grbic had to remove one player from the match squad.
While preparing for the European Championships, the coach of the Polish national team suggested that he would convince the Polish Football Association to accept the idea of sending not fourteen, but fifteen players to the tournament.
Why did Nikola Grbic push for such solutions? The Polish coach wants to have room for maneuver for a possible medical transfer. That is, the same rules as in the case of, among others, Olympic tournament. If the volleyball player from number 15 on the list joins the team, it will be a one-way change.
Nikola Grbic crossed out one name just before the European Championship. Everything is clear
The rules of the competition are the same, so the Serbian coach of the Poles – just like the coaches of any other national team – must choose the starting fourteen. Let’s recall what team coach Grbic took to the European Championship 2026.
Polish team for the European Championship 2026
- Quarterback: Marcin Komenda, Jan Firlej.
- Attacker: Bartłomiej Bołądź, Kewin Sasak.
- Recipient: Tomasz Fornal, Wilfredo Leon, Kamil Semeniuk, Artur Szapluk, Aleksander Śliwka (captain).
- Mid: Szymon Jakubiszak, Bartłomiej Lemański, Jakub Majchrzak, Jakub Nowak.
- Libero: Jakub Popiwczak, Maksymilian Granieczny.
The decision was made on Wednesday (i.e. September 9). The volleyball player who will be waiting for his performance will be center Jakub Majchrzak. The Poles will play their first match on Thursday (i.e. September 10), and their opponent will be Portugal. The meeting starts at 3:00 p.m.
The four best teams from each group at the tournament will advance to the 1/8 finals. It is worth adding that Poland is defending the title of European champions from 2023. Then, in the final, the Poles turned out to be better than the host Italians, winning in three sets.
Matches of the Men’s European Volleyball Championship will be shown on Polsat open (Poland’s match) and Polsat Sport. On the Internet, you can use the Polsat Box Go platform.
