Nikola Grbic appreciates their talent. Here are the representatives who may be up for grabs!
The problems of JSW Jastrzębski Węgiel may open up opportunities for interesting moves on the transfer market. Even with Polish representatives in the lead.
The problems of JSW Jastrzębski Węgiel are one of the most important topics of recent weeks in the context of PlusLiga volleyball. The Silesian team, which until recently was one of the strongest, or even the strongest in Poland – and a leading international team – may cease to exist in a few moments.
This is, of course, the worst-case scenario of the club’s current situation. However, Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa will not finance the PlusLiga team in the 2026/27 season, and there may also be problems with closing the budget in the current league campaign. Such arguments mean that we cannot be too optimistic in the context of the future of the volleyball players from Jastrzębie-Zdrój.
PlusLiga: Michał Gierżot and Maksymilian Granieczny on the transfer market?
If JSW Jastrzębski really has to resort to final measures – and in cultures we are talking about, among others, regarding the sale of licenses to play in PlusLiga – the team will also break up. The current one and the one planned for the next campaign. Certainly, the largest players on the market will pay special attention to the relatively young Polish representatives. There are two players in JSW Jastrzębski – receiver Michał Gierżot and libero Maksymilian Granieczny. Both of them will be tasty morsels, taking into account both what has happened to them in the slightly deeper past and in recent months.
Granieczny was complimented many times by the coach of the Polish national team, Nikola Grbic. The Serb is well aware of the scale of talent we are talking about. It is no coincidence that Granieczny was a full member of the team in the 2025 season. Gierżot, however, is not happy with the senior national team. The receiver began to have health problems at the end of his youth era – suffering an injury in the team then led by coach Daniel Pliński.
However, Gierżot is considered a volleyball player with huge potential. Although it is difficult to talk about a very young talent, because he is a player born in 2001 and will turn 25 in October this year. The 206 cm tall volleyball player was among PlusLiga players for the first time in the 2020/21 season.
In the case of Granieczny, it is a slightly newer story. Today, the libero born in 2005 seems to be much closer to Grbic’s team than the above-mentioned Gierżot. First of all, we’re talking about positional competition. Granieczny has to get to the top two in the tournament – or to one place, if we’re talking about the Olympic tournament. It seems that in the here and now next to him is Jakub Popiwczak, with whom they formed a duo in… Jastrzębie-Zdrój.
Gierżot’s rivals include, among others: Wilfredo Leon, Tomasz Fornal, Bartosz Bednorz, Artur Szalpuk, Aleksander Śliwka, Rafał Szymura… And these are just some of the players coach Grbic had in the national team.
However, if the situation in Jastrzębie-Zdrój does not improve, it may turn out that Gierżot and Granieczny will become of invaluable value to one of the clubs (one or two). Which, just a few weeks ago, was not included in club budgets or hierarchies of positions in individual PlusLiga centers.
