New PLN 5 from Thursday. The National Bank of Poland issued a statement
Next Thursday, a new PLN 5 coin will be put into circulation. Even though it is a commemorative coin, you can pay with it just like any other five-zloty coin.
The National Bank of Poland (NBP) announced that on November 20, i.e. next Thursday, it will introduce a new commemorative coin with a face value of PLN 5 into circulation.
The new 5-zloty coin is another in the “Discover Poland” series – a series of circulation coins with a commemorative image, which was officially launched in 2014.
The new coin decorates the town hall in Brzeg (Opole Voivodeship). It is a Renaissance building from 1569-1577, designed by Bernard Niuron. Its characteristic elements are a loggia, a tower with a cupola and two corner alcoves. Inside there are historical rooms, including: Councilors’ Hall and Ceiling Hall. Today it serves as the seat of the city authorities.
New coin from Thursday. You can pay in the store
There is no official issue price yet, some numismatic stores are already conducting pre-sales. According to “Fakt”, you have to pay from PLN 7 to PLN 10 per piece.
Importantly, commemorative coins, despite their collector nature, are also legal tender in Poland. This means that you will be able to pay with it just like any other five zloty. Unlike collector coins, which are produced in small series and often made of precious metals, such an issue is prepared in large quantities and intended for everyday use.
An example of a collector’s banknote is the collector’s banknote “The Millennium of the Coronation of Bolesław the Brave”, introduced at the beginning of November. It reminds us of one of the most important moments in the history of Polish statehood. This is another issue referring to the millennium of the coronation, previously the NBP commemorated this event with collector coins.
The PLN 20 banknote has dimensions of 170 x 85 mm. Its circulation is up to 70,000 pieces. It can be purchased at all NBP Regional Branches and in the Kolekcjoner online store for PLN 160.
