New coach of the Polish national team! A surprising return in PZPN
Jerzy Brzęczek is to become a new coach of the U-21 Polish national team. According to Mateusz Borek, the ex-selector of the senior team is to replace Adam Majewski.
The journalist and co -founder of the sports channel passed sensational information via Platforma X.
“Jerzy Brzęczek will become the new coach of the Polish national team U21. The former selector will replace Adam Majewski in this position,” reads Mateusz Borek in social media.
Interestingly, the candidacy of Jerzy Brzęczek until recently was one of the solutions in the context of the senior national team. Ultimately, however, the Polish Football Association focused on Jan Urban.
Media: Jerzy Brzęczek a new selector! Will lead the U-21 team
The history of the Brzęczka coach is, you have to admit, quite unusual. The captain of the Olympic runners -up from the Barcelona Games (1992) as a footballer in the Polish team played in 42 official matches, scoring four goals. Brzęczek worked as a coach of Poles in the years 2018-21. Interestingly, the team was promoted to Euro 2020 at the time. However, the world was storped by Pandemia Covid-19, which stopped almost everything, including sport. Ultimately, the European championships were postponed to 2021, and before the euro began, Brzęczek lost his job. Success in the form of promotion to the European Championships he consumed for a Pole employed by the then PZPN President Zbigniew Boniek – Portuguese Paulo Sousa.
It can therefore be admitted that if the news on the part of Mateusz Borek works, Cezary Kulesza reaches his hand towards Brzęczek. Giving a again a chance to work in the national team. Brzęczek is to replace Adam Majewski. During the recent ME U-21, the Polish team presented themselves very poorly, falling off after group competitions-where they suffered three defeats in three matches.
There was Michał Prdyk before the Majewski coach of the U-21 team.
UPDATE: The news passed by Borek was confirmed by the Polish Football Association in a special announcement.
– On behalf of the Polish Football Association, I would like to thank coach Adam Majewski for nearly two years of cooperation. Together we decided that it would not continue. Before coach Majewski, further challenges in which we will support him as a federation. We wish you all the best in further training work and thank you for your time together. Good luck, trainer! – said the sports director of PZPN Marcin Dorna.
The mentioned coach Majewski, who was replaced by Brzęczek, led the Polish U-21 national team from September 2023 to the end of the European Championships 2025 in Slovakia. Interestingly, PZPN before the tournament … he extended the contract with Majewski. As you can see, it was not a thoughtful movement from the football federation.
