In the first two weeks, over 100,000 were received. applications for the so-called widow’s pension – says the Ministry of Family. Approximately 2 million people can benefit from this benefit.
It came into force at the beginning of this year It is a combination of a survivor’s pension with another benefit, e.g. old-age pension or disability pension.
Previously, a widowed person had to decide whether they would receive their own pension or survivor’s pension after their deceased spouse (it amounted to a maximum of 85% of the deceased’s benefit). As a result of the changes, you can choose to pay 100%. survivor’s pension and 15 percent own benefit, or 100 percent own benefit and 15 percent survivor’s pension. In 2027, the amount of the second benefit paid as part of the widow’s pension will be increased to 25%.

The Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy reminds that the conditions for obtaining a widow’s pension are as follows:

reaching retirement age,

marital partnership until the day of death,

acquiring the right to a survivor’s pension no earlier than 5 years before reaching retirement age,

not being married.
The recruitment of widow’s pension applications started on January 1 this year. Data provided by the ministry show that seniors did not delay in submitting documents during the first two weeks.
– Until 8 am on January 14 this year, i.e. during the first two weeks, Polish seniors submitted exactly 104,535 applications to the Social Insurance Institution – according to the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy.
Payment of the benefit will start in July this year. The right to a widow’s pension will be granted by ZUS (or another pension authority) from the month in which the application was submitted, but not earlier than from July 1 no. The Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy estimates that approximately 2 million Poles will benefit from the introduction of widow’s pension.
