Nawrocki signs the bill. Up to PLN 1,800 per month for an apartment
Up to PLN 1,800 per month for a service apartment. President Nawrocki signed the act; the benefit is tax-free and depends on location.
President Karol Nawrocki signed an act that introduces monthly subsidies for accommodation costs for uniformed services officers. The new benefit will range from PLN 900 to PLN 1,800, depending on the place of service, and will be tax-free. The funds can be used both to pay rent and to repay the mortgage installment. The solution will include, among others: Police, Border Guard, State Fire Service, ABW, AW, SKW, SWW and SOP.
Accommodation rules
The Act unifies and organizes the rules of accommodation, modeling them on solutions already used in the Armed Forces. Instead of the current right to housing, officers will be given the right to choose the form of accommodation. Thanks to this, the support will be adaptable to the family situation and the local market, and the benefit will go directly to those entitled to it.
Minister of Internal Affairs Marcin Kierwiński emphasized that this is a “giant injection” for the formations subordinated to the Ministry of Interior and Administration and an important element of the personnel policy. According to the ministry, the new regulations are intended to encourage people to join and stay in service, which is intended to reduce job shortages. It was also pointed out that in Warsaw the vacancy rate reaches 25 percent, and in the capital the benefit ceiling will be the highest in the country.
Similar signals are coming from the Chancellery of the President: the solution is intended to secure the housing needs of officers and make it easier for them to perform their duties. The announcements emphasized that in the current reality, the safety of citizens is a priority, and stable service conditions are its important pillar.
Uniform rules
The new act creates uniform rules for all formations covered and clearly indicates the purpose of the benefit: to relieve the home budgets of services in large cities and smaller towns and to increase the attractiveness of working in uniform. The tax-free nature of the support is intended to ensure that the full amount goes to the officer. The final amount of funding will be determined by the location, which is to reflect the differences in the costs of renting and maintaining apartments.
As a result of the amendment, the state abandons the uniform, “local” approach in favor of a flexible financial model. This is intended to simplify access to accommodation and at the same time become a tangible recruitment argument in formations that are responsible for the country’s internal security on a daily basis.
