NATO boss Mark Rutte calls for a four -time increase in the alliance’s air defense capacity. Warns against the ongoing threat from Russia.

During a visit to London, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte called on the alliance Member States to significantly increase investment in air defense. He said that NATO should increase its abilities in the field of anti -cancer and air defense four times. He emphasized that current threats require a definite and long -term answer.

Strengthening defense

At a conference organized by Think Tank Chatham House, Rutte pointed out that even the end of the war in Ukraine would not remove danger. “We need to make a huge jump in our collective defense,” he said. He also pointed to the growing threat flowing from the air, as exemplified by Russia’s actions towards Ukraine.

“We see Russia sowing terror from the air, which is why we must strengthen the shield that protects our space,” he emphasized. He also reminded that Russia cooperates militarily with China, North Korea and Iran, which further deepens the threat.

NATO Secretary General also drew attention to the pace of Russian arms production. As he said, in the field of ammunition, Russia is able to produce as much as the entire alliance in a year within three months. This – in his opinion – shows the scale of the challenge that NATO must face.

Great Britain will increase expenses

In London, Rutte met with the new prime minister of Great Britain, Keir Starmer. The Prime Minister undertook to increase British defense expenses to a level of 2.5 percent. GDP until 2027 and 3 percent GDP after this date.

Fragments of the secretary general were published before the official speech, which immediately caused the reaction of the Russian authorities. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Pieskov assessed that NATO announcements are confrontational and will be a financial burden for taxpayers in Europe. According to him, NATO “dropped the mask” and was revealed as a tool of aggression, not stabilization and safety on the continent.
