MPs argued about the future of CPK. “Populism and propaganda”

Projekt CPK

On Friday, November 22, the Sejm read the citizens’ bill on the Central Communication Port. Some MPs expressed concern about the future of the investment.

The Central Communication Port is a project that involved the construction of a new airport between Łódź and Warsaw. The investment, with an estimated cost of over PLN 131 billion, would be completed in 2031, and one of its important elements is the creation of a high-speed railway in Poland.

Citizens’ bill on the CPK in the Sejm

The citizens’ bill “Yes for CPK” was signed by 200,000 people. people and was intended to oblige the current government to continue the Central Communication Port project. The vice-president of the “Yes for CPK” association, Michał Czarnik, appeared in the Sejm to convince MPs to support the bill.

At the beginning, however, Czarnik criticized the pace of work on the CPK. In his opinion, land is being purchased too slowly, a small number of tenders have been launched, and there is still no strategic investor. He also expressed concern about multi-billion investments at the Chopin airport in Warsaw. In his opinion, this project is less advanced than the CPK and may block its creation.

– We heard that the project is based on numbers. We would like to see these numbers, he said. – We would like to see what is happening in the company and how the money is spent. The practice, unfortunately, is not good, he further stated.

In response to Czarnik’s speech, PO MP Mariusz Popielarz stated that the act he proposed was “pointless”. He recalled the words of Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who confirmed readiness to implement the project. – CPK is still being implemented and is entering subsequent phases – he emphasized. Later he called the project “populist and propagandistic.”

Maciej Lasek responded to some of the allegations regarding CPK

Maciej Lasek, the government representative for CPK, also commented on some of the allegations. – The project that you presented until we took over responsibility for this program is unrealistic and, of course, it would not have been possible if you had implemented it. We would run out of money, he said. He also informed that 90 percent land for the CPK has already been purchased.

He briefly discussed the case of the foreign investor. – Do you remember that the investor guaranteed himself the possibility of exiting the situation when, let’s say, the European Union or the Polish state decides that it will burden the airport with additional costs due to, for example, fuel or excise duty? – he asked. – I will not talk about all the details, because the gentlemen in the General Prosecutor’s Office were shocked when they saw this document – he summed up.

KO submitted a motion to reject the project. In turn, support was declared by: Law and Justice, Konfederacja, Polska 2050, Left, Razem and Free Republicans.
