MP Lichocka lied about Jeremy Sochan. She explained herself, but without an apology
Joanna Lichocka argued publicly that Polish basketball player Jeremy Sochan voted for Donald Trump. When she was proven wrong, she wrote another message.
On November 7, MP Joanna Lichocka announced on Facebook that basketball player Jeremy Sochan voted for Donald Trump. “We finally need to sort things out with immigrants,” the PiS MP, former journalist and member of the National Media Council since 2016 was falsely quoted.
Joanna Lichocka deleted the entry about Sochana
Michał Pacuda from the Jeremy Sochan Team, representing Sochan, reacted to Lichocka’s message. “I am asking you to delete this entry from FB. It would also be appropriate to explain to your recipients that this was false information. I understand that it’s politics, but we should expect the highest standards from politicians,” he wrote on the X website.
After some time, the MP complied with the request. “Thank you for the signal. Post deleted – my co-worker posted information without my knowledge and based on information from social media. I asked him to verify his posts more carefully. All the best,” she wrote. However, she did not decide to offer any form of apology.
Jeremy Sochan fell victim to fake news
Fake news with Jeremy Sochan appeared on social media on November 5. The dual-national basketball player was pictured at the ballot box. Under it was the caption “we need to sort things out with immigrants.” However, such words were never uttered by Sochan, who himself has Polish roots.
“The entry below is manipulation and misleading,” wrote Michał Pacuda at the time. The photo was from 2023 and the parliamentary elections in Poland. The matter was quickly noticed and explained by the portal demagog.org.pl, which deals with tracking down fake news in our internet space.
