The tragic event took place in Kraśnik Górny near Bolesławiec. SSergeant Natan Sieroń was shot during a police operation. The officers entered one of the properties because they wanted to arrest a theft suspect. The 33-year-old shot a uniformed officer in the head. The 29-year-old suffered such serious injuries that his life could not be saved.

Marcin Możdżonek decided to comment on the dramatic events. A politician associated with Sławomir Mentzen’s party took advantage of the officer’s death to attack the Polish police. The former captain of the Polish volleyball team drew attention primarily to staff shortages and the method of training officers.

In his opinion, “the tragedy may be one of the signals that the system requires changes.” He added that “after two years of service, the young policeman was sent to a very dangerous operation, although – in his opinion – he should still be at the stage of preparatory service.”

Marcin Możdżonek argued that “the biggest challenge is not the regulations themselves, but the lack of an appropriate number of trainings and their inappropriate form, which does not prepare for the realities of service.”

In a post posted on social media, he also drew attention to: the problem of supporting officers who use weapons in accordance with the law. He assessed that “such situations cause officers to have justified fears and hesitation before deciding to use weapons.”

The police respond to Możdżonek’s allegations

The police decided to respond to the entry. The spokesman for the Police Commander-in-Chief questioned primarily the claim that Natan Sieroń’s death was the result of staffing problems.

Therefore, there are no grounds to present the tragic death of Natan Sieroń as a result of the police staffing situation,” he emphasized.

Further in the message it was noted that the officer was performing his official duties and was wearing a vest with the word “POLICE” written on it, and yet the attacker fired a shot at him.

“It was the attacker’s action that led to the policeman’s death – not his two-year experience, the number of vacancies or the theses regarding training formulated today, without knowing the full arrangements,” the spokesman said.

The policeman also noted that “a discussion on improving the formation is needed.” However, he noted that “it should not be conducted in a way that uses the tragedy to build a political message.”
