Mountains and aurora borealis in the background. Poles captured a unique phenomenon
The Northern Lights in Poland delighted tourists. Many of them were lucky to experience a unique phenomenon at the beginning of 2025. In the Tatra Mountains they could feel like in Scandinavia.
It was already known on New Year’s Eve that the aurora borealis would appear in the Polish sky. Those who were outside the illuminated urban spaces and took advantage of the good weather saw a beautiful phenomenon. Many photos have appeared on the Internet. The Poles showed what they could count on in the mountains.
Aurora borealis captured over Poland
Do you associate your January New Year’s stay in the mountains mainly with madness in Zakopane? It turns out that you can also relax away from the crowds and observe a phenomenon more spectacular than fireworks shot into the sky. They were lucky, among others: Bartłomiej Jurecki, Daniel Gruszka, who showed off their photos of the Northern Lights seen over the Tatra Mountains and Podhale.
The effect is unique. In the photos we see not only beautiful views, but above all shimmering colors – from pink to purple and even yellow. All this right above the mountains, which only added to the attractiveness of the moment of observation. Both on New Year’s Eve and after it, you could go out on the trails, but you had to maintain safety and silence. Many people used this time to look for the aurora borealis.
Aurora borealis in Poland
Although the northern lights are mainly associated with countries such as Norway or Finland, they can also be seen more and more often in Poland. According to some, the views here can be as exciting as in Scandinavia. Usually it all depends on where we are and the weather conditions – the clearer the sky, the better.
So far, Poles have observed the aurora borealis, among others: by the sea, but also in the mountains and many small towns in various parts of the country. Photos published online always impress Internet users, and that was the case this time. After the January aurora captured over the Tatra Mountains was shown, the Facebook post on the “Tatromaniak” website was full of comments. “Wonderful views”, “Beautiful” – we read. Most of them also boasted about their photos – there were even some from the vicinity of Zegrze in Masovia. Have you ever been so lucky?
