Millionaire arrested. This is how much he has accumulated over the years in parliament
Ryszard Czarnecki was detained by CBA officers at the airport on Wednesday. The operation is related to the investigation concerning Collegium Humanum. His wife was also detained. Ryszard Czarnecki has amassed a large fortune over the years of political activity in the Polish and European parliaments.
Ryszard Czarnecki’s financial declaration, which he submitted as an MEP in his last term, shows that together with his wife he owns a flat with an area of 126 square metres, worth PLN 2.6 million, and another with an area of 80 square metres, valued at PLN 800,000.
Assets of detained former PiS MEP
The former PiS MEP also owns a 90-meter summer house, which was valued at PLN 220,000, and a 120-square-meter apartment in Belgium, which is worth EUR 210,000 (approx. PLN 895,000). Czarnecki also owns a 250-meter plot of land, which is worth PLN 100,000. Ryszard Czarnecki saved PLN 306,000, EUR 220,000 (PLN 937,000) and USD 10,000 (approx. PLN 40,000).
That’s not all. The former MEP also owns shares worth PLN 78,000. His savings in 2019 were more modest and amounted to PLN 86,000, about USD 1,500 and EUR 131,000 (PLN 558,000). Additionally, the politician owns a 2018 Range Rover Velar worth PLN 205,000, and thanks to his activity in the Polish Volleyball Federation, he earned PLN 177,000.
Ryszard Czarnecki arrested. The case concerns Collegium Humanum
On Wednesday, September 11, at approximately 4 p.m., CBA agents detained former MEP Ryszard Czarnecki at the Warsaw airport. At the same time, his wife Emilia H. was detained in Warsaw. The proceedings, conducted jointly by the Central Anticorruption Bureau with the branch office of the National Prosecutor’s Office in Katowice, concern Collegium Humanum.
The proceedings with the PiS politician ended a few minutes before 11 p.m. – TVN24 reported. – Political theater. The authorities are making games because they can’t do anything else – Czarnecki said, driving away from the prosecutor’s office. The spokesman for the Ministry of Interior and Administration and the coordinator of special services, Jacek Dobrzyński, commented that “the case is quite strong and developing”. – It’s about selling university diplomas, a dozen or so people have already been detained across the country and this is a continuation – he said.
According to the station, “no material evidence of the work performed by Emilia H. has been found so far, and this is what the explanations of the founder of the university and its rector Paweł Cz, who has been detained and arrested since June, are supposed to sound like”. “Ryszard Czarnecki was a calling card for the business and political elites associated with the Law and Justice camp. Thanks to his participation in events publicized by the university, everyone received a signal: you can study here, it’s our university,” said one of the CBA agents.
