The Korean concern POSCO International is building an electric motor core factory in Poland. Production will start in 2025, and orders are already coming in.

Korean concern POSCO International started building its first factory in Poland. Located in Brzeg, in the Wałbrzych Special Economic Zone “Invest-Park”, the factory will occupy an area of ​​21,000 m2. m² and will produce cores for electric motors. The investment worth EUR 42.3 million (approx. PLN 180 million) is part of the company’s strategy to develop the ecological automotive industry in Europe.

Gigantic orders by 2030

POSCO International chose Poland for its latest investment due to the high demand for components for electric vehicles. Production of traction engine cores in Brzeg is scheduled to start in the second half of 2025. The initial production capacity will be 260 thousand. pieces per year, and by 2030 the plant will reach full production capacity of over 1.2 million pieces. The construction of the main hall and sanitary and electrical installations has already been completed, and the project is supervised by Dekpol.

Hyundai Motor Group, which owns the Hyundai and Kia brands, has already placed the first order for over a million cores. Components manufactured in Brzeg will be delivered, among others, to: to Hyundai factories in the Czech Republic, where the electric Kona is being built, and to Kia plants in Žilina, Slovakia, which are preparing to produce the new EV3, EV6 and EV9 models. POSCO plans to globally produce up to 4.3 million cores per year by 2025, and by 2030 this number will increase to 7 million.

When will mass production start?

Serial production at the new plant in Brzeg is scheduled to start in the second half of 2025. Initial production capacity is 260 thousand. pieces of cores per year. After launching a set of eight presses, annual production will increase to over 1.2 million sets by 2030.

Na Jeong Su, president of POSCO International Poland JS, emphasized the importance of investing in Europe. “Providing a production base in Europe, alongside Asia and North America, is a strategic step in the development of the ecological automotive industry. Cooperation with European car manufacturers will allow us to become a leader in the production of ecological parts,” he said.

Kia and Hyundai have already ordered almost a year’s production from Poland

The first order for the production of 1.03 million pieces of cores has already been placed by Hyundai Motor Group, which owns the Hyundai brands (IONIQ electric models) and Kia (EV3, EV6 and EV9). Components produced in Lower Silesia will be delivered, among others, to: to the Hyundai factory in Nosovice in the Czech Republic – there it is produced, among others. electric Kona. In turn, Kia is preparing its factory in Žilina, Slovakia, to launch the production of battery cars.
