Mild climate and fewer crowds. The holiday country has a second face

Croatia will show tourists its more intimate face during the May weekend. This is how you can spend time in its cities and on bicycle trails.

Croatia has been one of Poles’ favorite travel destinations for years. Thanks to the wide availability of air connections, it is easy to plan trips to this country outside the season, and tourists can then experience its more intimate nature. Croatia, thanks to the diversity of regions, becomes a natural choice for a spring city break, a family trip or an active weekend.

Croatia in spring

A spring weekend is the perfect time to discover Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. A walk through the charming Upper Town (Gornji Grad) allows you to travel back in time – narrow streets, atmospheric squares and the characteristic Lotrščak tower create a unique atmosphere perfect for a leisurely discovery of the city.

A must-see on the map is the Dolac market, the heart of local life, where you can try regional products and feel the authentic atmosphere of the city. Zagreb is full of life already in spring – café gardens, cultural events and green parks make it an ideal destination for a quieter trip.

Bicycle trails for the May weekend

This direction may also be of interest to cyclists. On May 1–2, 2026, northwestern Istria will host the second edition of the international gravel festival NOVA Eroica Istria – Truffle Tour. The program included three different bicycle routes – from more demanding to recreational ones – leading through some of the most beautiful corners of Istria, including the area around the medieval town of Motovun, the villages of Livade and Oprtalja.

However, the festival is not only about cycling. It also includes events inspired by local tradition, family activities and a rich culinary offer based on regional products – from truffles and olive oil to local wines.

Dalmatia. Dubrovnik and Split without the crowds

You can also visit cities such as Split or Dubrovnik in peace. A walk along the walls of Dubrovnik or among the ancient monuments of Diocletian’s Palace in Split takes on a completely different character when the pace of the tour is slower and the space is less crowded.

Spring weather is also conducive to outdoor activities – from walks along the coast to the first cruises between islands that allow you to discover the Adriatic Sea.

– We are increasingly observing that travelers choose Croatia not only because of the summer season, but as a year-round destination that suits their lifestyle and expectations. Spring is the moment when you can discover it in a more peaceful, authentic version – emphasizes Małgorzata Kowalska, director of the representative office of the Croatian Tourist Board in Poland.
