PlusLiga: Bartosz Kurek returned in a hit, ZAKSA lost in Zawiercie

Saturday’s game on the territory of the Polish runner-up started better for the hosts. Aluron CMC Warta is able to use the advantage of its area in Zawiercie. The team led by Michał Winiarski won the first two games by 20 and 22, respectively. The Zawiercie team was especially impressive on serve, and the leader of his team was Karol Butryn, who was very difficult to stop offensively.

When the score was 2-0 in sets, ZAKSA’s coach decided to take a risk by introducing changes to the positions. Bartosz Kurek appeared on the pitch for Mateusz Rećko, while Jakub Szymański joined the team as the receiver, replacing Igor Grobelny. These were good decisions that paid off very quickly. Especially the move with Szymański, who showed off five(!) point serves in the third set alone.

MVP for Bartosz Kwolek. Nikola Grbic present at the match

The game won 25:20 gave the visitors hope of extending the match to the fifth set and gaining at least one point in difficult terrain. What’s more, the guests were leading 19:16 in the fourth game. But then Bartosz Kwolek took matters into his own hands. The receiving team, Aluron CMC Warty, made a great series of plays, taking the team into the lead (20:19). This was a turning point in the match, after which ZAKSA was unable to respond to the pressure of its fast rival.

“Kwolo” was deservedly awarded the MVP award. And all this in front of the eyes of coach Nikola Grbic, who was present in the hall in Zawiercie, watching the PlusLiga hit. Let us add that Kurek finished the match – the first one played in a long time – with eight points. And the best scorer was Butryn, the author of 20 points.

Thanks to this win, Aluron CMC jumped to second place in the table, just behind Jastrzębski Węgiel. This is a similar situation compared to the previous season. ZAKSA recorded its fifth defeat in the current campaign. The inhabitants of Kędzierzyn remain in the top six places.
