Michał Probierz announced an important decision. One specific thing was missing
The Polish national team has two matches in the Nations League ahead of it. Coach Michał Probierz has announced an important decision regarding the goalkeepers.
Wojciech Szczęsny ended his football career on August 27. He had already announced that he would end his long-term career with the Polish national team at Euro 2024, and later it turned out that he would not be playing for any club either. The September training camp of the team is therefore in a way unique. It lacks a figure who was associated with the national team for many years. Szczęsny played 84 matches with the eagle on his chest. Never before in the history of the national team has anyone played more times as a goalkeeper.
Try to find a replacement for Szczęsny
Szczęsny’s departure means that a new goalkeeping era is opening up in the squad. In previous years, the outstanding goalkeeper was practically unbeatable. Other goalkeepers stood between the posts practically only in friendly matches. One of the exceptions was the duel at Euro 2024 with France, where Łukasz Skorupski got a chance and used it very well, being the best player of the match. At that time, Poland drew 1:1 with the vice-world champions.
Before the upcoming Nations League matches, the question arose as to who would replace Szczęsny. At Wednesday’s press conference, Michał Probierz made it clear that he had not chosen number one. He had already announced earlier that this would not happen for now. He briefly announced how he would resolve the goalkeeping issue in the near future. However, there was no specific information in the form of who would play against Scotland.
– As for the goalkeepers, we have already made our decisions, but we will announce the line-up tomorrow. In both matches, different goalkeepers will defend, but I will not give the order, because you (journalists – editor’s note) would not have programs – said Michał Probierz in his style.
Skorupski and Bułka in the squad?
Speculations have already begun as to who will play as a goalkeeper for the Polish national team in the clash with Scotland and who will play against Croatia. Probierz has Łukasz Skorupski, Marcin Bułka and Bartłomiej Drągowski at his disposal. Bartosz Mrozek will only take part in training. Fans are betting that Skorupski and Bułka will get their chance between the posts.
The match with Scotland will take place on Thursday, September 5. Kick-off at 8:45 p.m. At the same time three days later, the Poles will have another away battle – with Croatia.
