Michał Kubiak

Michał Kubiak for the second time in a row champion of China. The former captain of the Polish national team reached for the triumph defending the colors of Shanghai Bright. Now it’s time to return to PlusLiga?

Michał Kubiak has been in club since 2014. An experienced host played in PlusLiga for the last time in the colors of Jastrzębski Węgiel, and it was in 2011-14. He reached with the team, among others for the bronze medal of the elite Champions League.

A player from Wałcz apparently feels good outside Polish borders, regularly fighting for the highest goals. In recent years, Kubiak has chosen a course to Asian directions, first appearing in the Japanese league, and this latest story – is the fight for the China championship. Effective, let’s add, because Kubiak has just reached for his second title, defending the colors of Shanghai Bright. At the finish line of the season, the team with a Pole in the composition turned out to be better than the team of Hebei Baoding Wola.

What’s more, the Pole was the best scoring play-off phase in the Chinese league. In the final battle, deciding about the championship, Shanghai Bright won 3: 1. Kubiak scored 16 points, including a solid performance.

Or Two -time world champion (2014 and 2018) with the Polish national team is thinking about returning to PlusLiga? At the end of 2024, we informed about emerging rumors related to Kubiak and Fabian Drzyzga as a duo in PSG Stali Nysa. Since then, however, a lot has changed, primarily in the context of a club from the Opole region, which more than the next season, must worry … maintaining in PlusLiga.

Regardless of the situation in Nysa or any other Polish club, Kubiak himself a few weeks ago, in the program “Volleyball without borders” on the YouTube volleyball league channel, referred to his club future.

– I would really like to go back to Poland. But, as we laugh with my friends and friends, there is a 50 percent chance. I want, they don’t want to (…) I don’t mind returning and playing in PlusLiga, but it must cling to it, he must have arms and legs. Sometimes I have the impression that presidents are able to grease what money on average foreigners than to earn their own. Although this is changing now, because the boys who are now in the team and PlusLiga have very good contracts. What I was talking about has happened in the past – added the former Polish representative.

Listening to club fittings in PlusLiga, Kubiak’s name does not scroll through the best teams in Poland. Perhaps there will be a revolution and – as in the case of Wilfredo Leon or Bartosz Kurek – national games will gain a very strong name. For today, Kubiak seems to be a more real perspective to stay in Asia than the decision to return to domestic Polish parquet.
