Mentzen detained at London airport, presidential minister on “scandal”. New facts

Sławomir Mentzen

Sławomir Mentzen thanked for the reaction after he described being detained at the London airport. “I am glad that our state sometimes acts on such matters,” said the Confederation leader.

On Friday, May 8, Sławomir Mentzen announced on social media that he was detained for questioning in London while he was going through passport control with his wife and children. The Confederation leader reported that the reason was that an organization had marked him. Mentzen argued that he did not intend to participate in or speak at any political events, and that he came to Great Britain on a private basis.

“I wasn’t surprised that they cared about my views. Rafał Ziemkiewicz and Janusz Korwin-Mikke had problems with entry a few years ago,” admitted the leader of the Confederation. Mentzen noted that he was the only European detained at all times. After more than three hours, the politician received a passport and was allowed to go without explaining what was going on.

After a few hours, Mentzen posted a new entry. “I would like to thank the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Radosław Sikorski, and the consul, Agnieszka Fabryczewska, for their contact and the promise to send questions and requests for explanations to British institutions. I would also like to thank Ministers Marcin Przydacz and Adam Andruszkiewicz for their interest in the matter and the promise of appropriate actions by the Chancellery of the President,” wrote the leader of the Confederation.

Andruszkiewicz called the situation a “scandal” and assured that the story must be “explained immediately.” “There is no consent to treating a person this way just because of his views. Within the scope of my competences and in accordance with my conviction, I will draw the British side’s attention to the inadequacy of such measures and the fact that such situations do not have a positive impact on the image of our ally in the eyes of Poles,” Przydacz commented.

“I am glad that our state sometimes acts on such matters, regardless of political differences. I have always taken the position that in Poland we can argue, but abroad, as Poles, we should support each other, not attacking each other or our state,” concluded Mentzen.
