Mentzen detained at London airport? A radical turnaround
During passport control in London, Mentzen was allegedly treated badly by officers. Was that really the case? The British Home Office shed new light on the whole matter.
At the beginning of May, the leader of the Confederation – the president of the New Hope party – was in the United Kingdom. He flew to Great Britain for private purposes – together with his wife and children. He wanted to spend a nice weekend there. He encountered an unpleasant situation at the airport – he reported everything on the X platform.
He hoped that the inspection at the London airport would go smoothly, but immediately after it Sławomir Mentzen was to be invited to one of the rooms. The activities took a long time – he reportedly left the place only after three hours.
Sławomir Mentzen did not hide his surprise. “They asked why I came here.”
The MP was allegedly questioned by employees of the “mysterious organization”, including: about the purpose of his trip, as well as where he booked accommodation. “They asked why I came here, where I was staying overnight, what I was going to do. The officer asked if I was going to participate in any events and speak at them,” he wrote on social media.
Afterwards, he wanted to find out, among other things, why the inspection took so long. However, he was not to receive an answer. “Britain is a totalitarian state. If I were planning a public meeting, they probably wouldn’t let me in. (…) Someone decided that I should be denied entry to the country as a precaution, because I might say something that shouldn’t be said here” – this is how he interpreted the behavior of the services.
It is worth noting that his post X has generated as many as 1.2 million views as of today (Tuesday – June 23).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs took the floor. The British issued a correction
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs then contacted the British Home Office to learn the details of the alleged detention of the MP. The department has sent a response.
“We have been informed that there was no detention or restriction of the freedom of MP Sławomir Mentzen, and only actions were taken to confirm that the purpose of his visit to Great Britain was consistent with the declared one,” said Radosław Sikorski’s ministry (quote from gazeta.pl).
