Medal for Poland at the end of the Olympic Games! This date is special

Brązowe trio panczenistów

On February 22, the Polish national speed skating team won the bronze medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics. It was a beautiful finish to the best winter games in history.

The best in history in terms of medals for Poland – let’s add. Only twice has the winter Olympic team brought home more than four medals. Just during the event in Sochi, Russia (2014) and four years earlier in Vancouver, Canada (2010).

Interestingly, the third result in this respect is… this year’s (2026) Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo – four medals.

Medal for Poland at the end of the games! Great emotions in speed skating

We wrote about the successes achieved by the speed skating team in WPROST on the occasion of the end of the career of one of the participants of those events, Natalia Czerwonka. In terms of team successes, the 2014 Winter Olympics were exceptional for Poland. The silver ladies were joined by the bronze gentlemen.

Men’s panning in Russia recorded the best games in history. It should be remembered that in addition to the team podium, Poles could also boast of the individual gold – won by Zbigniew Bródka.

As for the success of the bronze trio, the medal team consisted of: Bródka again, Konrad Niedźwiedzki – currently the head of the Olympic mission (with whom we recalled that success before the Winter Olympics 2026) and Jan Szymański.

The Poles first faced Norway in the quarterfinals, in the semifinals they failed to overtake the biggest favorites, the Dutch, but they redeemed themselves in the race for bronze against Canada. Let us add that the Canadians defended the Olympic gold in 2014, but they lost to the Poles at the finish line by over two seconds.

In total, speed skating has brought Poland seven medals in the history of the games. Only ski jumping has contributed more among all sports in history (13), which shows how important our ski jumping is to the country in winter.

Winter Winter 2026: Four Olympic medals for the Polish team

The Games on the Apennine Peninsula were quite successful for the Polish team. Looking at the medal achievements, this is the best performance of the Olympic team in red and white colors in over 12 years.

Medals for the Polish national team during the 2026 Winter Olympics were won mainly by ski jumpers. One of them, a 19-year-old Olympic debutant – Kacper Tomasiak – won three of them. The leader of coach Maciej Maciusiak’s team was silver on the normal hill, bronze on the large hill in Predazzo and again the Olympic vice-champion in the duet competition. In the latter case, Paweł Wąsek formed a two-person team with Tomasiak.

We also cannot forget about the first medal for Polish men at the Winter Olympics since 2014. Vladimir Semirunniy reached for it. “Władek” became the Olympic vice-champion in the 10 km distance.

In its history of participation in the Winter Olympics, the Polish team has won a total of 27 medals – seven gold, ten silver and ten bronze, respectively. Interestingly, the first bronze medal for Poland was won by Franciszek Gąsienica-Groń (Nordic combined) almost exactly 70 years ago, during the Olympic Games in… Cortina d’Ampezzo. This year, history has come full circle in a beautiful Italian-Polish Olympic circle.

Speaking of history, another special story happened during Winter Olympics 2026. Namely, Klaudia Adamek was the first in the history of Polish Olympism to take part in both the summer and winter games. A former athlete and participant of the Olympic Games in Tokyo (2021) in the 4×100 meters relay, she completed the Olympic set by starting in Italy (2026) in the bobsled doubles.
