Mass exemptions in a big city. More than in all of 2024
This year, the number of reported group layoffs in Krakow has already exceeded the annual level of 2024. Accounting companies decided on the biggest cuts of full -time jobs.
Disturbing data on the labor market in Krakow is given by “Dziennik Polski”. It turns out that in the period on April 1-5 this year. Krakow companies reported over 1,000 employees for group layoffs. This means that from the beginning of this year the number of people who have lost or lost employment (employers must notify the Grodzki Employment Office of such a intention at least 30 days in advance) reaches 3,000. It is more than in the whole of 2024, when as part of mass dismissals, the employers terminated contracts with 2,700 people.
– From April 1 to May 5, 2025, the intention to carry out group layoffs reported seven workplaces to the Grodzki Labor Office in Krakow. The planned number of people to be dismissed is 1015 – Magdalena Żuchowicz, deputy head of the labor market services department of the Grodzki Labor Office in Krakow, gave the journal.

The largest exemptions (725 people in total) are planned by two companies dealing with accounting and accounting activities and tax consultancy. What are the reasons for dismissals? The most common causes are: broadly understood economic causes, organizational changes resulting from the economic situation of the employer, bankruptcy proceedings, liquidation or completion of the employer’s activities.
Dr. Robert Szydło from the University of Economics in Krakow spoke in an interview with Radio Kraków. In his opinion, this is a result of structural and technological changes rather than a breakdown in economic order. He indicates here, among others Restructuring and liquidation of branches, or the use of AI, especially in accounting. – Business is dynamic, never stands still (…) OCR programs recognize invoices, man no longer introduces them – he only verifies them – He explained Dr. Szydło in an interview with the station.
The data of the Central Statistical Office (CSO) shows that in March the unemployment rate in Krakow amounted to 2.2 percent. It’s 0.2 percent more than at the end of 2024.
