“Małe Mazury” in Warsaw. Here you can feel like you are on vacation

Jezioro Balaton na Gocławiu

In Warsaw you can find Lake Balaton. There is no shortage of beautiful landscapes in the most densely populated part of the capital.

Praga-Południe is the most densely populated district of Warsaw. Apart from the residential blocks, you can find extensive green areas here – numerous squares, alleys and Skaryszewski Park, considered one of the most beautiful in the capital. Another interesting place is Lake Balaton – an artificial reservoir located in the park next to the Gocław-Orlik Housing Estate. In spring and summer, it is worth going on a trip here to see that even resorts in Masuria would be proud of such recreational areas.

In Warsaw it’s almost like in Masuria

Warsaw proves that you don’t have to leave the city to feel like you’re on vacation. What’s more, in one exceptional case you don’t even have to leave your estate. In the Lake Balaton Park (the official name established in September 2010), we will experience an atmosphere reminiscent of Masurian resorts, although in a somewhat specific environment of large-panel buildings.

“Balaton” is an iconic place on the map of the Praga-Południe district. The reservoir created by damming the waters of the Gocławski Canal existed between the current Abrahama and Nowaka-Jeziorańskiego streets already in 1925. Today, the lake has an area of 2.64 ha and is connected to the water system of Skaryszewski Park through the Gocławski Canal, Gocławskie Lake and the Exhibition Canal.

A beautiful park with paths and piers

The residents of the Gocław estate appreciated the proximity of the water more when a park was built here. The project to create green recreational areas in this place appeared in 2008, and the official opening took place two years later. In the park, walkers will find, among others: playgrounds, a cafe, terraces by the water and a beach volleyball court. There is also a stream with a fountain and a cascade, acacia and linden avenues, a garden gazebo and the remains of a former orchard. On the southern shore, floating piers for anglers are also hidden among the rushes.
