Maja Chwalińska with a second chance at the US Open. Wimbledon champions defeated!
Positive news from New York. Maja Chwalińska and Magda Linette won an important match in the doubles tournament. The Polish women eliminated the Wimbledon winners.
On Thursday (i.e. September 3) we reported in WPROST that only Iga Świątek was left in the US Open 2026 singles tournament – considering the Polish accents. Seeded number 8 on the courts in New York, the Pole advanced to the third round of the competition.
Unfortunately, the remaining Polish representatives did not manage to stay longer in NYC. Magda Linette, Magdalena Fręch and Maja Chwalińska were eliminated in their first matches. The men’s situation was slightly better, here Kamil Majchrzak and Hubert Hurkacz recorded one victory each, but their story at this year’s US Open ended in the second round.
You can also add qualifications to this list, where Martyna Kubka was the closest to happiness. The Grand Slam debutant lost only in the third round, being one victory away from the main draw of the tournament.
Without much history, Linda Klimovicova, Katarzyna Kawa and Maks Kaśnikowski will remember their performances in NYC.

It is not by accident that we present this list. Taking a holistic look at the very average performances of Polish women and men on the courts in New York, it is worth appreciating each success. And what happened last night – Polish time – in the doubles competition can certainly be considered as such. An unusual duo took part in the game: Maja Chwalińska and Magda Linette.
As it turned out, the Polish women showed their best side. Doubles Chwalińska/Linette defeated the favored Hanyu Guo and Kristina Mladenovic 6:7 (5), 6:4, 6:4. What is most important, however, was that the Poles played with a lot of joy, which was not so obvious in the case of the competition between Chwalińska and Linette in the singles.
– For me, it was a great pleasure to play with Magda. It was our first doubles match (…) We defeated great players. The joy is even greater – Chwalińska said with a smile after winning.
