Maja Chwalińska vs. Iga Świątek. A tennis festival is coming
The entry lists for the upcoming Grand Slam US Open have appeared. In New York, two of the Polish tennis players will be seeded really high.
The US Open is the last Grand Slam tournament in the tennis calendar, both for women (WTA) and men (ATP). The application lists have just been announced. There was a large group of tennis players among the tennis players.
The two highest placed, which is no surprise, are Iga Świątek and Maja Chwalińska.

The first Polish woman mentioned above has exceptionally good memories of the New York tournament. Iga Świątek has won six Grand Slam titles. She won one of them, in 2022, during the US Open.
Overall, the Pole needs “only” a victory in the Australian Open to complete her career Grand Slam. In addition to the above-mentioned win in NYC, Świątek won four times on the courts. Roland Garros in Paris (2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024) and once on the grass of Wimbledon (2025).
Chwalińska is currently in a completely different situation. Privately, Świątek’s friend only entered the really big stage of world tennis in the 2026 season. Chwalińska caused one of the biggest sensations in recent years, reaching the Grand Slam final in Paris. Only in the title game did the Pole have to acknowledge the superiority of her opponent, losing to Mirra Andreeva.
Returning to the US Open 2026 list, Świątek will be seeded number 8. This is a new reality for the Polish tennis player, although considering the results in the current season, it is hardly surprising that the Pole dropped in the rankings. Świątek lost a lot of points due to her defeat in the third round of Wimbledon, where she was defending her title from last year’s edition.
Can Chwalińska and Świątek compete in a direct match in New York? This type of battle is not ruled out. Świątek will start with the mentioned number 8, and in the case of the finalist of Roland Garros 2026 it will be – here and now – number 22. Chwalińska will want to “atone” for the instant defeat she suffered on the Wimbledon courts. Additionally, the Pole can only gain in the rankings, having an automatic chance to be in the main draw of Grand Slam competitions.
Ultimately, everything will depend on the draw of the New York tournament.
US Open 2026 will start on August 30 and last until September 13.
