Maja Chwalińska paired with Serena Williams. It’s crazy about Polish women

Maja Chwalińska

Maja Chwalińska will start this year’s Wimbledon with number 20. The finalist of Roland Garros 2026 attracts attention, and her name is compared with the greatest.

There is no denying that the interest in Maja Chwalińska has exceeded our wildest expectations. The Polish tennis player, who came to Roland Garros 2026 as the player number 114 in the WTA ranking, first entered the main ladder by storm, and then reached the Grand Slam final. Chwalińska played a total of 10 matches on clay in Paris.

And now, at the legendary Wimbledon, he will be among the seeded players. The Pole will play with number 20.

Maja Chwalińska together with Serena Williams. Huge interest in Polish women in London

The draw for the Wimbledon 2026 main tournament took place on Friday (June 26). Who did Chwalińska win? The Pole’s rival will be Mananchaya Sawangkaew, the representative of Thailand. The player is a year younger than the Pole (born 2002), but is mainly known for her appearances in tournaments at the ITF level, not the WTA level.

Chwalińska’s opponent got to Wimbledon through qualifications. The Pole will therefore have to be careful, because she herself went through such a qualifying route a few weeks ago in Paris. Sawangkaew has nothing to lose and will want to take advantage of her chance by playing against an opponent who, until recently, also had to break into the biggest tennis stages, dreaming of at least a place in the top 100 of the WTA ranking.

Interestingly, the Wimbledon organizers placed Chwalińska’s match against Sawangkaew next to… Serena Williams, who will play against Maya Joy. The return of the American at the age of 44 is a huge event at this year’s Wimbledon.

Williams was in the same part of the ladder as Iga Świątek. Looking at the layout of the games, there is a chance that the best Polish tennis player will face Serena at the third round of singles in London.

Among the interesting games, there was also the match of Magda Linette. The Pole will play in the first round against… Mirra Andreeva, the winner of the Grand Slam title in Paris. The Russian defeated Chwalińska in the final, but will she be able to cope with the more experienced Pole in London? Both matches – both Chwalińska’s and Linette’s – are scheduled for Monday (i.e. June 29).

Wimbledon 2026. Where and when to watch the Grand Slam played in London?

It is worth adding that Magdalena Fręch faced a difficult opponent – Anna Kalinska. Hubert Hurkacz, a Wimbledon semi-finalist from 2021, will face Norwegian Casper Ruud. Both meetings are also scheduled to take place next Monday.

A day later, Iga Świątek will appear on the court, competing with the American Taylor Towsend and Kamil Majchrzak. The singles player, who will defend his points from the fourth round from last season in London, will face Alejandro Tabilo. It will be an opportunity for a revenge for… this year’s Roland Garros, where the Chilean quickly dismissed the Pole in the first round on the Parisian courts.

Wimbledon 2026 broadcasts will be available on Polsat sports channels and online at Polsat Box Go. The tournament is scheduled for June 29 – July 12. Qualifying will start a week earlier.
