Maja Chwalińska didn’t give the Ukrainian any chance. It was a knockout!

Maja Chwalińska

Another great performance by Maja Chwalińska in the WTA 500 tournament in Singapore. The Pole defeated Oleksandra Olyjnykova 6-0, 6-1 and advanced to the quarterfinals.

The match between the Pole and the Ukrainian promised to be very interesting. Both tennis players are famous for their interesting, unconventional game, which is not based on what is currently dominant in tennis – physical strength.

And indeed, the assumed scenario came true on the court in Singapore. However, the fans gathered in the stands watched only one tennis player perform. Maja Chwalińska did not give her opponent the slightest chance of success, and the match itself looked exactly as the result showed. So it ended with a win of 6:0, 6:1.

Maja Chwalińska in the WTA 500 quarterfinals in Singapore. What a match for the Poles!

From the very beginning of the match it was clear who was keeping control of their nerves. Oleksandr Olyjnykova made a lot of mistakes, which are listed in the statistics as unforced, but there is no denying that the Pole’s play had a significant impact on them. Chwalińska changed the pace very well, used the entire space of the court, and was also able to surprise the Ukrainian many times.

At times you could get the impression that it was a match between someone extremely experienced and a character who is just starting his career on a bigger stage. However, if we look deeper into the careers of both tennis players, Chwalińska does not have extensive experience at the level of even competing in WTA 500 tournaments.

The Ukrainian woman certainly has the heart to fight. However, it was definitely not enough for such a fit Chwalińska. Who will the Pole play against in the quarterfinals of the event in Singapore? Her rival will be Elise Mertens. However, the Belgian did not have to take the court to advance to the quarterfinals. Her rival Barbora Krejcikova withdrew from the competition due to an injury.

It is worth recalling that Chwalińska had a valuable break in Singapore after a long series without an official victory. The last time a Pole won – before the Asian WTA 500 event – was on August 15, so it’s fortunate that the worst is now behind the Pole.
