“Lunch in Warsaw, breakfast in Rijeka.” We know when the train can go to Croatia

Minister of Infrastructure Dariusz Klimczak gave the possible date of launching trains from Poland to Croatia. We also got to know ticket prices.
The plan to connect Poland and Croatia with a direct rail connection by PKP Intercity is not as distant as it may seem. Although until recently it was emphasized that the possible start of the train is not possible this year, it seems that a lot of chance appeared. Minister of Infrastructure Dariusz Klimczak during a conversation on Radio ZET revealed the probable date of the inauguration of the connection to Rijeka, as well as ticket prices.
From Poland to Croatia by train PKP
The dream of dinner in Warsaw and breakfast in Rijeka will come true soon? Dariusz Klimczak on Radio Zet surprised the listeners, informing that the start of the awaited connection over the Adriatics is still possible this summer. “I applied to my counterparts, among others, in Austria that this connection could be implemented from July 1 this year,” said the minister. “The declaration of the head of the infrastructure ministry may surprise, especially in view of the very limited number of available sleeping cars, especially adapted to international traffic,” comments the railway market.
Undoubtedly, such a combination would be a real hit, especially among those who have been driving a car to Croatia so far. Dariusz Klimczak also draws attention to possible benefits for tourism in Poland. “It’s not just one of our favorite destinations, but also the invitation of Croats to Poland, and we know that Croats love Poland,” he explains.
That’s how much tickets will cost
Until now, we knew that a possible connection from Warsaw to Rijeka would be implemented by a night train starting from Warsaw in the afternoon (most likely around 14:00). The composition of PKP Intercity, after driving through Ostrava, Vienna, Graz, Maribor and Lublana, would reach the Croatian station the following day at 08:45. How much would such a journey cost?
According to Klimczak, the prices of the cheapest tickets would start from PLN 200, but these are only the initial announcements that will be verified after talks with the Austrian and Slovenian side. For comparison, in April the cheapest flights from Poland to Croatia (Zadar and Dubrovnik) can be found for less than PLN 100, but these prices will definitely increase in the holiday months. The train can therefore be an interesting alternative to air travel, as long as the prices will actually be close to those given in the announcements.
