Łódź checks 100 tenement houses on the tunnel route. The worst fears are confirmed

Łódź. Examination of a wide belt over the future tunnel

Grabowski reminded that the main tunnel designer wanted to broaden the examined area over the tunnel. Now buildings are checked on the land belt width from 70 to even 100 meters along the tunnel being built. Some neighboring buildings are also checked, because in Łódź many tenement houses have common structural elements, even walls.

The spokesman added that the contractor had already indicated the objects suitable for demolition, and only some of them were demolished. This was the effect of social protests that took place at the turn of 2021 and 2022. It was then decided to leave the maximum number of objects above the tunnel route.

When is the tunnel under Łódź? Talks are underway

Piotr Grabowski explained that even the order of buildings is being checked. In the case of the September disaster, it was a key aspect. The rights of the pitched tenement house had only one its own wall. The others belonged to neighboring buildings.

– It is possible that expert opinions will help make difficult decisions about possible demolition of tenements, which are in the worst technical condition – said the spokesman. Initially, the construction of the tunnel was to be completed in June 2026. After interrupting the tunnel drilling in September 2024, the contractor submitted an application to postpone this deadline for a year. Negotiations are ongoing.
