“Little Venice” in Poland is counting on tourists. The train will arrive here

Kowary

The charming city in Lower Silesia will be more accessible to residents and tourists. This will be made possible by the revitalization of railway line No. 308.

Many tourists look for inspiration for travel thanks to associations with Venice, Paris or Prague. One of such places is located in Poland – Kowary in Lower Silesia. Although it is not a city located on islands, the way of getting around it is associated with its Italian counterpart.

“Venice of the Karkonosze Mountains”

The Jedlica River runs through Kowary, and buildings stretch along it for 5 kilometers. The local promenade is called the “Venice of the Karkonosze Mountains”. You can walk along it along the bridges, bridges and footbridges on the river, crossing to the other bank. In Kowary you will find as many as 50 different types of bridges and footbridges. These tell the story of an ancient craft.

The walk starts at the intersection of Zamkowa, Karkonoska and Jeleniogórska streets, leads through the Józef Gielniak Promenade, and then through the Twin Cities Bridge, Złotnik Bridge, Młynarza Bridge, Herbowy Bridge, Piwowara Bridge and ends at the Kowal Bridge at Ludwika Waryńskiego Street.

Guests can also visit Kowarski Zalew, with an educational path around the reservoir and modern seating.

Trains to Kowary

This charming city, slightly overshadowed by Karpacz, may attract more tourists this year. In recent years, Lower Silesia has been at the forefront of revitalizing railway connections in Poland. In the first quarter of 2026, the section of railway line No. 308 between Mysłakowice (which can be reached by train from Jelenia Góra) and Kowary is to be completed. However, we will have to wait for the return of trains, probably until 2028.

“Connecting Kowary with Jelenia Góra by rail will be great news for residents and tourists,” Elżbieta Zakrzewska, mayor of Kowary, told WP. – “This will facilitate everyday transport – to work or school, but we also hope that it will attract new visitors to the city,” she noted. She added that after leaving the train, tourists will immediately go to the Tourist Information located in the building of the former railway station.
