Poland loses over PLN 20 billion annually due to the exclusion of LGBT people. Tolerance in companies not only improves the image, but also increases profits.

The Open for Business report reveals the scale of losses that the Polish economy is incurred by discrimination against LGBT. According to Rzeczpospolita, the exclusion of LGBT community in the workplace and their health problems cost a country up to PLN 20.4 billion a year. This is due to, among others from the unused potential of talents, outflow of experts abroad and reputational losses of Poland on the international arena.

Discrimination costs

According to the report, Poland loses billions on various levels. The health problems of the LGBT community, resulting from life in conditions of stress and tension, have economic consequences. Added to this is the incomplete use of the professional potential of these people and their decisions to emigrate from the country in search of more tolerant work environments.

Why does tolerance pay off?

Compliance with human rights and respect for diversity bring measurable financial benefits. The report indicates that tolerant companies achieve better financial results, increase innovation and are more competitive on the market. A positive approach to diversity also improves the reputation of the country, which is crucial in attracting foreign investors.

Change of course – a chance for Poland

As “Rzeczpospolita” notes, tolerance in the workplace is not only a matter of ethics, but also an economic development strategy. Improving the situation of the LGBT community can translate into an increase in innovation, stopping the outflow of talents and an increase in trust in international arena.

According to the report, activities such as introducing inclusive policies in companies, supporting diversity and eliminating discrimination can become the key to better results not only for enterprises, but also for the entire economy.
