Legendary Polish coach returns to work. He was recently involved in politics
Bogdan Wenta has been involved in politics in recent years. The famous coach of Polish handball players announced his return to his former discipline, although he has not yet revealed in what capacity.
In the first decade of the 21st century, Polish handball entered the world arena. In 2007, Bogdan Wenta’s team won the vice-world championship, which to this day (along with the bronze medal at the Olympic Games) is the greatest success in history. In recent years, similar successes have been sought in vain. Wenta, who in recent years has served as the president of Kielce, wants to restore the glory of his beloved discipline.
Famous Polish coach returns to handball
In addition to coaching the Polish national team for many years, Wenta also dealt with clubs. For a year, he coached the German Magdeburg, and for several years Vive Kielce, with whom he won the Polish championship four times and also took third place in the 2012/2013 Champions League. The former national representative does not officially have a coaching license, because it expired when he decided to focus on his political career.
Now, the 62-year-old has announced his return to the world of Polish handball. In an interview with Przegląd Sportowy, he revealed that during the upcoming Polish Super Cup, he will take part in a training conference for coaches to renew his license. However, he has not officially announced his return to coaching. One of the ideas of the former MEP and mayor of Kielce is to run in the elections of the Polish Handball Association.
– I talk to many people from the discipline and I see how much there is to do in Polish handball, to which I have devoted most of my life. I believe that I have the right experience, I still feel the fire to act and I am financially independent enough that I do not need the presidency for my own benefits. During the course conference I would like to hear about the latest trends in handball, but I also want to meet people and see if I can count on the support of the community with my ideas – said Wenta.
Bogdan Wenta may fight for the president’s seat with his former player
If Bogdan Wenta runs in the elections for the president of the Polish Football Association, his rival would be Sławomir Szmal – a goalkeeper with whom the former coach worked both in the national team and in the club.
