KPO controls reveal abuse. There was even a buying of a yacht
The ministry of funds reveals the results of KPO control. In seven projects, irregularities were detected, and in one case it concerned the purchase of a yacht.
The Minister of Funds and Regional Policy Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz informed about the results of inspections regarding the spending of funds from the national reconstruction plan. Of the 3206 verification, 39 was deepened. It was in this group, as reported by the minister, that seven cases of irregularities were detected. – Most of the beneficiaries are honest, but they always appear with large money- said Pełczyńska-Nałęcz.
Conflict of interest
The reservations concerned, among others conflict of interests and spending money contrary to the goal for which they were awarded. The most famous example was the purchase of a yacht, which-as emphasized by Pełczyńska-Nałęcz-was not used in business activity and did not serve to increase the entrepreneur’s revenues. In this case, the government decided to withdraw funding, and the beneficiary will have to return the funds received.
Pełczyńska-Nałęcz pointed out that the inspections are still ongoing and will not end at this stage. 1389 projects have already been sent to further verification, which raise doubts. The minister added that supervision over the proper use of KPO funds in the HoReCa industry will continue, and any irregularity will result in financial consequences.
Expenses from KPO
The issue of KPO expenditure caused great emotions in August, when information about projects financed from EU funds began to appear in social media. Users pointed out examples of subsidies intended for yachts, saunas, solariums, replacement of furniture and the purchase of virtual shooting ranges. The topic was quickly picked up by the media and politicians who publicly commented on the principles of allocating money from KPO.
According to information from the ministry, detected irregularities constitute a small percentage of all projects, but the inspections are aimed at eliminating cases in which subsidies are used contrary to their intended use. Minister Pełczyńska-Nałęcz emphasized that the government will consistently enforce the return of funds in situations where beneficiaries violate the principles of the program.
