Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz was a guest on the program “One on One”. He was asked about the missing money in the Ministry of National Defense budget. A specific amount was given.
On August 15, soldiers marched along Wisłostrada. During the parade on the occasion of the Polish Armed Forces Day, military equipment was presented (some vehicles for the first time). The Ministry of National Defense plans to invest a lot of money in purchases for the army, which will be spread over many years. On Friday, the host Agata Adamek asked the head of the Ministry of National Defense about the “hole” in the budget.
Kosiniak-Kamysz admitted that “the Ministry of National Defense budget is large”, but that billions of zlotys are missing because of his predecessors.
The Minister of National Defense announced the amount
The Deputy Prime Minister stated that the former head of the Ministry of National Defense, Mariusz Błaszczak, “did not secure funds for many things,” so the ministry “has to make up for it.” “Infrastructure alone, over the next 10 years, as we estimated at the beginning, is short of PLN 46 billion,” he said on TVN24. He indicated that this includes hangars for American Boeing AH-64 Apache attack helicopters.
Adamek, however, wanted to get an answer about the total amount missing. Kosiniak-Kamysz said that we are talking about much larger amounts. Considering the entire decade, until 2035, this probably amounts to hundreds of billions of złoty. “We will have to look for sources of financing,” he emphasized.
However, he announced that in 2025, “the budget for the Polish army will be the highest in history.” He spoke about the sources of financing – the budget of the ministry itself, a minimum of three percent of GDP (gross domestic product), as well as the Armed Forces Support Fund.
Kosiniak-Kamysz: Transformation of the army will take many years
The Minister of National Defense said that there are many people willing to join the army. He admitted that “the transformation of the army will take many years,” but the army is “ready to defend the homeland.”
According to Kosiniak-Kamysz, the European Union should not include military spending in its deficit and debt. He said that Finance Minister Andrzej Domański is fighting for this to happen in Brussels.
