KO boasts about the prices of “basic products”. Internet users had no mercy

The Civic Platform said the price of several basic food products was X. Donald Tusk’s group boasted that under the coalition government the price of poppy seeds, most often bought around Christmas, is 34 groszy cheaper compared to 2023. Internet users did not leave many favorable comments under the post.

In an entry from December 23, PO boasted that in December 2024 we will pay less for a basket of basic products than in 2023 – that is, when the United Right was in power.

It may be quite puzzling to many that the list includes poppy seed, carp and white cabbage – let’s remember that we are talking about “basic products”.

KO boasts about the prices of products and fuel

Thus, in 2023, poppy seed mass (850 grams) cost PLN 8.79, and a year later – PLN 8.49. As for carp (sheets), the price per kilogram was PLN 44.99, and currently it is PLN 29.99. White cabbage (1 kg) was also replaced, which cost PLN 3.99, and today you can get it for PLN 2.99. Also included was pork loin, a kilogram of which cost PLN 22.67 (for PiS), and now its price is PLN 21.46. We also have tomatoes on the list (price per 1 kg), which cost PLN 9.82, and today – PLN 8.75. PO admits that among the mentioned products that were considered “basic” – most likely due to the holiday season – the price of butter was a bit off, which cost (for 250 g) PLN 5.74, and now – a mere PLN 8.59.

Average prices from December 2023 and 2024 were compared. The data comes from the websites money.pl and dlahandlu.pl.

The next entry focuses on gasoline and provides its average prices in the European Union (based on e-patrol.pl data). They were determined based on the exchange rates of the National Bank of Poland. And so Bulgaria came first – the price of gasoline is PLN 5.47, Lithuania was second – PLN 5.94, and Poland was third – PLN 5.99. Next we have Romania – PLN 6.03 and the Czech Republic – PLN 6.04.

“Poland is among the countries with the cheapest fuel,” boasts the Civic Coalition.

What do Internet users say about this?

Many users of the X platform do not believe the prices given in the entry. Internet users point out the amounts that have to be paid for the most available products in popular discount stores, which are much higher – e.g. pork loin. Another commenter asks, “where are the tomatoes for PLN 8?” Dlahandlu.pl, which analyzed the prices last month, states that the average price of pork loin (1 kg) is PLN 22.41, although you can also find meat for PLN 18.24. When it comes to tomatoes, for example, the average price is PLN 9.26, but the cheapest price is PLN 4.93.

In the case of fuel, Internet users reminded that it was supposed to cost PLN 5, not about PLN 6. Let us remind you – this was one of the “100 specifics” of the PO program. Tusk promised before the 2023 parliamentary elections that he had a “very specific solution” that would lead to this state of affairs.

On Monday, Adrian Zandberg, leader of the Razem party, commented on the PO basket. The MP noticed that some entries about product prices had been deleted by the party. “Dear Prime Minister! Food prices have increased, not decreased, since previous holidays. If you don’t believe me, you can check with the Statistical Office,” he pointed out.

Zandberg: Are you guys kidding me?

The politician further writes that KO “raised VAT (tax on goods and services – ed.) on food. Unfortunately, the costs of housing, rent, energy and health expenses are also going up. “Pushing the story that it’s great because it’s the cheapest Christmas in history won’t work, even if your propaganda tubes pushed it 24 hours a day.” “People actually see the bill at the checkout. “Reality, contrary to appearances, does exist,” he concluded.

“Are you kidding me?” – asked Zanderg. He also wondered when the last time politicians visited a grocery store.
