Key beltway ready. Opening April 25

New route in the province Silesia will be opened on Friday, April 25. This is an important investment for the safety, liquidity of movement and the quality of life of the inhabitants.
The Minister of Infrastructure Dariusz Klimczak announced that on April 25 in the afternoon the first section of the Poręba and Zawiercie bypass will be put into service along national road No. 78. A new fragment of the 16.6 km route will connect the Siewierz beltway with the Kromołów junction.
Improving safety and driving comfort
A modern dual carriageway bypasses 16 km old DK78, eliminating 36 local intersections and 30 pedestrian crossings. As Minister Klimczak emphasizes, the route will significantly improve the safety and smoothness of traffic, shortening the travel time by almost half.

As part of the investment, two new road nodes were created, a viaduct over the railway line, 16 retention reservoirs, animal crossings and acoustic screens. The project was co -financed from EU programs POIŚ and Feniks for a total amount of over PLN 389 million.
Stages of construction and delay
The agreement for the construction of the first part of the beltway was signed in December 2019. At first, it was planned to end in April 2023, however, due to delays in obtaining ZRID decision and problems with access to the construction site, the deadline was postponed to April 2025.
Comprehensive modernization of DK78
The total length of the planned beltway of Poręba and Zawiercie is 24.3 km. Currently, the construction of a western section of 16.7 km implemented by the Kobylarnia and Mirbud consortium is underway. The documentation was made for the eastern fragment (7.6 km) as early as 2021, and the contract with Polaqua was signed in 2024.
In the longer term, DK78 will lead through new beltways of Kroczyce, Pradeł, Szczekocin and Goleniów, as well as the modernized section of Pradała – Irząga. The whole episode between Siewierz and the border of the province. Świętokrzyski will gain modern infrastructure.
DK78. Key route of Upper Silesia
National road No. 78 connects Upper Silesia with the province. Świętokrzyskie, running near the Katowice-Pyrzowice airport and the A1 motorway nodes and the S1 expressway leading to the border with Slovakia. The investment is crucial for regional transport and economic development.
