Kacper Tomasiak has a Olympic medal again! Farewell to Kamil Stoch?

Kacper Tomasiak

Kacper Tomasiak great at the Olympics! The 2026 Winter Olympics debutant took 3rd place in the large hill competition. Paweł Wąsek and Kamil Stoch were in the final series.

Just before the start of Saturday’s competition, Kacper Tomasiak took third place in the training series.

It therefore became clear that the Olympic vice-champion on the normal hill had found a way to tackle the large hill, which he had problems with in Predazzo in his earlier attempts.

WINTER 2026: Kacper Tomasiak wins a medal again! Farewell to Kamil Stoch?

The Polish debutant at the 2026 Winter Olympics finally finished Saturday’s competition with a medal. After the first series, Tomasiak was in fourth place, but in the final series he jumped to third place. This was decided by the Pole’s great jump of 138.5 meters. For comparison, his rival for the podium – Norwegian Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal – landed three meters closer.

Ren Nikaido may be the one to blame the most for this. The Japanese was the clear leader after the first series and it seemed that nothing could take away the gold medal from him. Yet. Nikaido spoiled the final attempt (136.5 m) and with a very good jump, Domena Prevca (141.5) had to accept the superiority of the Slovenian.

As for the remaining Poles, Paweł Wąsek and Kamil Stoch performed well. The former took 14th place, and the three-time Olympic champion finished his sixth Olympic appearance in 21st place. It seems that this was also a symbolic, last performance of Stoch. Individually, for sure, and as for the general starts – there is still a duet competition.

However, it seems that coach Maciej Maciusiak will focus on the Tomasiak-Wąsek duo, who performed better in the large hill competition at Winter Olympics 2026.

2026 Games in Italy. Where and when to watch the Poles’ starts?

The Polish national team during the opening games consists of 60 athletes. In the 21st century, there has never been a Polish woman or a Pole on the Olympic podium during the Winter Olympics. During the last winter games, Poland finished the competition with one medal. The bronze medal was won by ski jumper Dawid Kubacki in the competition on the normal hill.

It is already known that Kubacki’s result was beaten at the Winter Olympics 2026 by a debutant among Olympians – Kacper Tomasiak. The 19-year-old great talent won a silver medal in the normal hill competition and a bronze medal in the large hill competition in Predazzo.

Another Olympic runner-up, Vladimir Semirunni, who made his debut at the Winter Olympics, was also runner-up in the 10 km speed skating race.

In the history of the Olympic Games, the Polish national team has won a total of 26 medals – seven gold, nine silver and ten bronze, respectively. Interestingly, the first bronze medal for Poland was won by Franciszek Gąsienica-Groń (Nordic combined) almost exactly 70 years ago, during the Olympic Games in… Cortina d’Ampezzo. This year, history has come full circle in a beautiful Italian-Polish Olympic circle.

Broadcasts from Winter Olympics 2026 in Poland are provided by Telewizja Polska (TVP) and the Discovery group (Eurosport). The event will last until Sunday, February 22.
