Tiktok stopped operating in the United States as a result of a new law adopted by Congress.

Application users received a message about the ban on the platform. Tiktok counts on the support of the new US president, Donald Trump, who announced actions to restore the application.

Tiktok stopped working in the USA

On Sunday morning, Polish time users in the US were informed about the entry into force of the regulations prohibiting the activities of the Chinese platform. Americans using the application saw the message: “The law prohibiting the activities of Tiktok has entered into force. This means you can’t use it yet “. This decision is the result of the law adopted by the Congress in April, which prohibits the distribution and update of the application if it remains under the control of the Chinese company Bytedance.

Tiktok counts on Donald Trump

The management of Tiktok expressed the hope that Donald Trump, who would take the office of the president on Monday, will suspend the ban for at least 90 days. The new president-elect had previously assured that he would oppose restrictive regulations and “save the application”. During his first term, the Republican tried to force Bytedance to sell Tiktok, but the Chinese company refused.

The White House announced that Joe Biden’s administration will not enforce the provisions regarding the ban on Tiktok’s activity, leaving this decision at the responsibility of the new Trump administration.

No thicket. A threat to privacy or a political decision?

American services, including the FBI, have long been warning about the potential threats associated with Tiktok. The US authorities raise arguments about possible surveillance, disinformation and influencing public debate by the Chinese government through the application. On Friday, the Supreme Court rejected the complaint of Tiktok to new regulations, which ultimately determined the entry into force of the ban.

Tiktok for sale? Bytedance denies

Speculation about the sale of Tiktok gained the pace after the court’s decision, but Bytedance strongly denies that it was considering selling the platform. There were reports of potential merchants, including Elon Musk and other entrepreneurs associated with Trump’s surroundings. Bytedance, however, emphasizes that Tiktok remains in Chinese hands.

What next with Tiktok in the USA?

The future of the thicket in the United States is in question. Will Donald Trump actually suspend the ban and allow users to return to their favorite platform? Or maybe Bytedance will decide to change the ownership structure to avoid further restrictions? The new president’s decisions will be crucial for the fate of the application in the USA.
