Jan Urban told the truth about the national team. The coach’s honesty

Trener Jan Urban

On Monday evening (November 17), there will be a match between Malta and Poland. This is the last match for the Poles in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, at the group stage.

It is almost certain that the Polish national team will play in the play-offs for next year’s World Cup. The Poles will want to successfully complete the group competition. It seems that the defeat away to Finland was decisive, possibly ruining any hopes for a successful competition with the Dutch. Especially since Oranje turned out to be a team within reach.

Important words from the coach of the Polish national team. Honesty at the very end

If Poland reaches the play-offs, they are scheduled for March 2026. There will still be a lot of time until then. What is important, however, is that coach Jan Urban is already defining where the Polish national team is at.

During the official pre-match press conference in Malta, the coach decided to describe what happened during his short but very fruitful work with the national team.

– It seems to me that the most important work we had to do was to identify a broad squad and then select players for the first September training camp. In my opinion, the entire staff did a good job, because later on it was clear that there were not many changes, and if they did occur, it was mainly due to injuries, cards or the desire to check a specific player. It was important to get this first selection right. In the national team, it is difficult to make a sudden revolution and replace, it is not known how many players. We don’t have matches “for nothing”. We played several matches, one was friendly. As a rule, you are playing for something. In most cases, you need to work on ensuring that the team understands each other well and that there is adequate fluidity in the game, which requires stabilization. If it’s missing, every match looks different. It’s hard to tell where the ceiling is. I am happy that this team is simply developing, admitted the coach of the Polish national team.

Coach Jan Urban is still undefeated. The national team has changed its face!

The last months of the Polish national football team have been impressive. In July, Jan Urban took over the team after Michał Probierz. The former representative, most recently working for Górnik Zabrze, immediately took action and the positive effects are visible.

Poland played six matches under Urban’s supervision, without losing even once. It started with a difficult trip to Rotterdam, where the Poles drew 1:1 with the Dutch. Then, at home, in Chorzów, the team recorded a key victory – taking revenge on Finland for the blamage in Helsinki (1:2) – winning 3:1. This happened back in September.

The October international break means two more matches and two victories. First, a friendly match, again in Chorzów – a modest 1-0 against New Zealand – a team that has already guaranteed participation in the 2026 World Cup. In addition, a valuable 2-0 qualifying victory in Kaunas against Lithuania.

In November, Urban’s team started with another draw, with the same result (1:1) as in Rotterdam, but this time at PGE Narodowy with the Dutch. With this result, Oranje secured promotion to the World Cup one round before the end of the qualifying round. The Poles have one more match to play in November, on Monday (i.e. November 17), an away match against Malta – from 8:45 p.m.
