It will be expensive like never before. Popular attraction raises prices
A popular city wants to scare away tourists. The biggest tourist attraction is to be twice as expensive from spring.
Spain’s second largest city has been struggling with the problem of excess tourists for years. Barcelona is one of the most visited places in the world, and its biggest attractions – Sagrada Familia and Park Güell – are visited by several million guests every year. Although Barcelona is definitely not the cheapest place in Europe, prices are not as high as in London or Paris. Now, however, tourists must prepare for significant price increases.
Park Güell will be twice as expensive
The famous Gaudi Park is one of the most important places to see in Barcelona. It used to be that you could enter here for free, but for over a decade, tourists have had to pay between 10 and 14 euros for this pleasure. Now, entrance tickets for tourists to the popular attraction will be even more expensive and will range from 20 to 28 euros, which is almost as much as a visit to the interior of the Sagrada Familia (the construction of which will finally be completed in 2026). Residents of the Catalan capital will still be able to buy tickets at the old price.
Barcelona wants to scare away tourists
Raising fees for Park Güell is part of a plan to reduce the number of tourists in Barcelona. The negative atmosphere between metropolitan residents and foreign guests has been growing for years. Catalans are massively participating in protests aimed at legally regulating short leases, and this year even water guns were used to attack restaurant customers. As we read in Fly4free.pl, the increase in ticket prices does not necessarily translate into less interest in trips to the kingdom of city breaks, which can also be easily reached from Poland using low-cost airlines. The authorities also do not hide the fact that they hope that such a move will slightly reduce the number of tourists who visit this place. “However, experience shows that price increases in the most popular and iconic attractions rarely translate into lower interest. However, it will undoubtedly provide greater revenues to the city budget,” we read.
