It will be easier for a known benefit. There is the President’s consent
President Karol Nawrocki signed a law providing for simplification of the principles of obtaining a funeral allowance. In standard situations, determining the right to a benefit will no longer require ZUS decision.
At the beginning of July, the government adopted a draft amendment to the Act on pensions from the Social Insurance Fund. It provides for simplification of the principles of obtaining a funeral allowance.
It comes, among others for the elimination of the need for a decision by the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) in standard cases of applying for a funeral allowance, i.e. when, for example, the funeral is paid by one member of the family of the deceased. The ZUS decision will continue to be required in situations where more than one entity is responsible for the costs of the funeral (this is about the situation when the burial is organized, for example, by the employer, the Nursing Home or the commune), as well as in the event that the funeral allowance is to be granted to a person who is not a member of the deceased family, but covered the costs of the funeral.
– The project assumes that the determination of the right to the funeral allowance of its amount will not require a decision by ZUS if the funeral was paid by one family member of the deceased. Moreover, determining the right to an allowance will not require a decision by ZUS if the funeral allowance is granted in the amount of PLN 4,000 regardless of the amount of the funeral costs incurred (from January 1, 2026 PLN 7,000), if these costs were incurred by one person – a member of the family of the deceased – explained the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy.
Further changes in the funeral allowance. There is the President’s consent
The amendment simplifying the principles of obtaining a funeral allowance was signed on Thursday by President Karol Nawrocki.
The amendment also provides that the application regarding the granting of a funeral allowance will be able to be submitted directly to the disability pension authority or via a funeral parlor.
These are the next changes regarding the funeral allowance recently. At the end of May, the then President Andrzej Duda signed a law providing for increasing the amount of the benefit from PLN 4,000 to PLN 7,000. The increase will take place at the beginning of 2026.
