It was supposed to work for over a week, but the wind stopped it. The famous attraction in the Tatra Mountains is closed
The situation in the Tatra Mountains is becoming less and less stable. On October 10, it was announced that the famous mountain attraction was closed. Tourists cannot use the cable car to Kasprowy Wierch.
Are you staying in the mountains and dreamed of taking advantage of this iconic attraction? It turns out that this is not the case. It may be very similar for the next few days. The mountain wind has become stronger, making it difficult to get to Kasprowy Wierch. On the night from Wednesday to Thursday, gusts reached speeds of 115 km/h on the peaks. In Zakopane itself, wind gusts reach 60 km/h.
The cable car to Kasprowy Wierch is closed
It was supposed to be closed only from October 21, but it is no longer operational today. The cable car to Kasprowy Wierch stopped due to the wind. This attraction attracts many tourists and easily allows them to reach the 1,987 m high peak in the Western Tatras. The ride takes about 20 minutes.
The lift will start operating only when the weather situation normalizes. However, please remember that it will soon be closed for another reason. A technical inspection is planned for the period from October 21 to November 8. A similar one has already started in many other places. Currently, we will not be able to use, among others: the Gąsienicowa railway or the Goryczkowa railway. The cable car to Gubałówka is closed until October 18.
Better to avoid the trails
They now warn against mountain trips in the Tatra Mountains, among others: representatives of the Tatra National Park. “Trees or branches may fall on mountain trails due to wind pressure. Hiking in such conditions poses a threat to health and life,” we read in one of the messages.
It is known that from Thursday to Friday, meteorologists expect not only wind, but also rain. It may be slippery and dangerous. In addition, we will notice snow on some peaks. Fortunately, it will be better from Saturday, but you will still have to be careful. “The weather will change significantly over the weekend, cold air is expected to come to the Tatra Mountains, but it will be sunny. A beautiful autumn weekend awaits us, especially since the leaves in the forest have already changed color. If snow falls, the conditions in the higher parts of the Tatra Mountains will be demanding during the weekend – there may be icing in shaded places,” said Tomasz Zając, a guide and TPN educator.
