An angler from Poland described his fight with an extremely large chub online. Although it is a common fish, it brought him a lot of joy.

Angler Mateusz Kuształa reported his catch in the “Records for the plan” section. He boasted of catching a chub that measured as much as 61 centimeters. His report was published by the portal dzienniksciwedkarskie.com.pl.

The fisherman was describing a record catch. He started from the very beginning

Mr. Mateusz began his story about a unique fish with a big step into the past. He told how his uncle Janek introduced him to the world of anglers as a child. He recalled the support of his father, Michał, and emphasized that in that first period he mainly caught tench, crucian carp and roach.

As in many similar cases, over time fishing fell into the background, but Mr. Mateusz did not abandon it. The passion came back with double strength when he bought a boat. “I was captivated by trips to catch pikes and perches with a spinning rod in my hand, baiting ponds in water lilies in the hope of catching a beautiful tench, and, above all, trips to my beloved Łyna River,” he recalled.

As he assured, “it’s impossible not to fall in love with this river.” “Beautiful, mysterious, requires a lot of patience, but can reward all hardships with beautiful specimens” – he listed the advantages of his favorite fishing spot. That’s where he went on Wednesday, February 19, when he managed to break the record.

He caught a huge chub. He described his technique

“The day was alternately sunny and cloudy. I chose the section near Dobre Miasto. I prepared a ground set without a basket, the so-called picker, and as bait I was going to use the crumb of fresh bread with crust, which I bought the same day at the Dobre Miasto bakery,” he reported.

Mr. Mateusz pointed out that at this time of year bread is the best bait for chub. He started without baiting and chose the “simplest possible setup”, i.e. a 25 g through-line sinker and a swivel with an approximately 80 cm leader attached to it with a No. 4 hook.

“When catching a chub, literally fractions of seconds count, because although these are strong, violent strikes, you must not be late, because the fish will die,” he shared his experience. There was no debt waiting for the fish, after fifteen minutes the tip suddenly bent. The focused angler reacted accordingly.

As Mr. Mateusz described, the fish fought extremely fiercely from the beginning. “I felt that it could be the fish of a lifetime. It started moving sideways, then swam to the shore and entered the grass,” he described. “It was a critical moment. I was afraid of losing her, but I decided not to give up without a fight,” he noted.

He shortened the distance slightly and started maneuvering the rod to scare the chub away from the hook. “Phew, it worked! A few more minutes of fierce fighting and I had a fish on the bank. I was shaking with emotion! I have never seen such a large chub before,” he emphasized.

“When the measuring tape showed 61 cm, I couldn’t believe that I had a gold medal fish! After a quick session, Mr. Chub returned to his kingdom in good condition, and I will have beautiful memories for the rest of my life,” the man concluded.
