It turns out that the most unusual plane in the world is located in New Zealand. An extraordinary country located over 17 thousand km away from us encourages visits not only with its unique landscapes, geysers or subtropical climate, but also with its unique McDonald’s restaurant.
The famous fast food restaurant is located in a machine associated with travel and tourism, a retired Douglas DC-3 aircraft. All this in the city of Taupō, located on a beautiful lake in the center of the North Island. You enter this unusual McDonald’s like you would a classic airplane – up the stairs, but only through the back entrance. You can sit there and eat iconic dishes.
It is the only attraction of its kind in the world. It attracts tourists despite its many inconveniences. It turns out that the worst time to visit is in the summer. Visitors have complained about the lack of air conditioning or the small, two-person tables.
What is known about the famous machine? It comes from the times of World War II and was built in Long Beach, California in 1943 as a military transport plane. After the war, it flew for South Pacific Airlines of New Zealand and many other airlines, and its last flight was in 1984.
A similar attraction existed in Poland.
A similar sight awaited tourists and residents of Władysławowo for some time. There, a restaurant was created in an old and no longer used Tupolev Tu-134A passenger plane. The attraction did not survive the test of time, so it no longer exists today, but associations with the famous McDonald’s come to mind.
It is worth remembering that there are many unused or retired aircraft in the world, and some are put up for sale so that entrepreneurs can create their own unusual businesses in them. A restaurant on an aircraft was located in China, among others – Lily Airways operated in Wuhan.
