It is the most free city in Europe. People wear bathrobes on the streets

Miasto w Szwecji

Freedom may be understood slightly differently by everyone. This is what it is like in the picturesque Scandinavian city. For many people this is strange.

A bathrobe is an element of clothing that most people associate with a bath, sauna, hotel or massage parlor. We don’t parade around the city freely in it, and even around the house it doesn’t always happen to us. Did you know that there is a place in Europe where people wear bathrobes when going to the store or to the beach? It’s completely normal in a Swedish town. If you love freedom understood in this way, you will consider them perfect for relaxation.

A town “overrun” by bathrobes

There is an above-average fashion for bathrobes in Torekov, Sweden. In this small space, almost every day you will meet residents who, instead of wearing traditional trousers, dresses or blouses, walk the streets in more casual clothes. It’s not about them going to a sanatorium for treatments. They consider such an outfit to be perfect, among others: for shopping, a bike trip or meeting with friends.

Tourists from other countries or even nearby cities often look at it with amazement, but when they go there on a trip, they have to get used to these views and even adapt to local trends.

The bathrobe tradition was recently recalled on Instagram by internet creator @frejasettergren. “Yes, we all wear bathrobes. Mainly in the morning, but it is acceptable all day long (yes, even in the supermarket),” she writes in her post. He adds that this has become the norm and is the best thing in the world.

This is what Torekov offers

Photos and recordings published from Torekov show that residents prefer various types of bathrobes – from classic white ones to colorful and patterned ones. Such styles include, among others: flip-flops or hats. They feel good in them while riding a bike, walking dogs or standing in line at the store.

Internet users’ comments published under the Instagram post clearly show that the tradition is loved by Swedes. “But I love it”, “I love it, this level of relaxation is needed in the summer” – we read.

Where did this fashion come from in a Swedish town? It results from its seaside character and morning bathing rituals that have been cultivated by residents for several decades. The world began to comment on this phenomenon as its specificity became increasingly publicized in the age of social media.

Anyone who goes to Torekov can count on swimming in the cold sea, beautiful nature, the port, the Morgonbryggan pier and freedom. There are also plenty of cafes, bakeries and restaurants in the center. Moreover, you will find accommodation in various price ranges. Would you like to relax in this city?
