It will also make you relax away from the hustle and bustle of the city. There won’t be as much going on as in Zakopane, but there will be plenty of beauty. This is what Chochołów offers.

Chochołów, a beautiful village in Podhale

The village of Chochołów is located in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, in the Nowy Targ County. It is often considered one of the most beautiful in Poland and the most beautiful in Podhale. Such terms were not coined without a reason, they have a unique charm and attractions behind them. In the village we can find almost consistent architecture – characteristic highlander cottages stand everywhere. The whole thing looks impressive both in summer and winter. Moreover, we will see majestic mountains everywhere in the background and breathe clean air.

Visitors do not have to complain about the lack of attractions. In Chochołów there are, among others:

  • one of the largest complexes of thermal pools in Podhale, i.e. Termy Chochołowskie,

  • Natural Heritage Center – Peatlands Museum,

  • neo-gothic church of St. Jacek.

Walking around the area, you will easily notice numerous chapels, crosses and figures.

Those interested can get there very easily, especially if they go by car. Of course, the inhabitants of Małopolska will be closest to it. We will get there from Zakopane in less than half an hour. Driving through the street Powstańców Śląskich, passing the villages of Słodyczki and Dzianisz, we will have a total of approximately 17 km ahead of us.

This is what this village looks like. It has an interesting history

Not everyone knows, but Chochołów was a royal village, which means that it once received royal rights or was founded by a king. It is known that the place has existed since 1592 and is now classified as a class I monument. Its most important elements are the original cottages. The oldest ones were built at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. Moreover, the village became famous, among others, in history from the Chochołowo Uprising in 1846 against the Austrians.

It’s easy to see what Chochołów looks like on social media. Tourists often share their photos, among others: on Instagram. The photos show not only mountains and famous cottages, but also atmospheric streets and other attractions. When visiting the site – just like in Sierpc, Masovia – you may have the impression that you have traveled back in time to another era. Both adults and children should be satisfied with their stay, and fans of highlander culture will feel like they are in paradise.
