Is this the end of the symbol of Warsaw? Control documents were revealed

Warsaw Presidential Hotel is not only the former Marriott Hotel known to Warsaw residents. He was one of the first five -star facilities in our country. In 2016, however, it was found that he did not meet fire requirements.

Presidential will be closed? There is a decision

“As a result of the technical conditions of evacuation in the facility, the building was considered life -threatening …” – warned in the State Fire Service document. Specific recommendations were issued then, which were not incorporated for the next 8 years.

In connection with the lack of progress in improving security, on January 27, 2025, the Marshal’s Office of the Masovian Voivodeship issued a order to suspend hotel services at the Presidential Hotel.

The director of the Department of Culture, Promotion and Tourism, Paweł Martofel, announced the initiation of administrative proceedings from the office, which led to the decision to suspend the hotel’s operation until the deficiencies were removed.

The decision has no immediate enforceability clause, which is why officials are still expecting an appeal. Currently, you can still reserve a stay in the facility, both on its website and the popular platform for booking accommodation.

Presidential does not meet the requirements. 8 years of dodge

Journalists of “Super Express” tracked the documentation in the case. On this basis, they reminded that on June 1, 2016, Lim was ordered to “use technical and construction solutions protecting against smoke on the fire vestibules in K1 and K2 staircases, or use replacement solutions in relation to the above-mentioned requirements in the absence of their full implementation (…) ”

“During the local vision, there was a lack of providing technical solutions to protect against fire vestibules. The above fact is the basis for recognizing the building as threatening people’s lives (…) ” – added.
On July 20, 2017, a new date was set for improving security conditions, again on October 5, 2018, December 30, 2019, January 8, 2021 and February 10, 2022.

Then, “meeting fire requirements in the Lim Center rooms intended for Warsaw Presidential Hotel was found, provided that technical and construction solutions protecting against smoke, fire vestibules at KL1 and KL2 cages”.

On June 19, 2024, it was established that the recommendations were not implemented despite the repeated extension of the deadline. Finally, on January 27, the Masovian Marshal’s Office ordered to suspend services at the facility.

What should be improved in the Presidential Hotel building?

Firefighters at the request of “Super Express” explained what the recommendations concerned. It was about the lower part of the hotel, where service premises are located. Attention was paid to the necessity of:

• ensuring the efficiency of existing installations,

• building equipment with fire -fighting devices required by the regulations,

• ensuring the possibility of safe evacuation from the building

• Preparation of the building for conducting a rescue operation.

– All this means that there is a real threat to the life and health of people staying there for 8 years. And the evacuation paths are difficult – summed up in an interview with “SE” longtime fireman Grzegorz Jędrzejczyk, dealing with fire protection.
Officials, in turn, pointed out that the conditional admission of the facility for use is not sufficient.

– The documents owned by the Office do not show that the facility received at the same time the conditional opinion extending the date of implementation of the obligations arising from the 2016 decision, and the Lim Center during the proceedings did not provide such a document – emphasized Marta Milewska, spokeswoman for Marshal of Mazovia.
